Security Alert – Explosion Damages Scooter Near BSF Headquarters in Jalandhar
Security Alert – An explosion near the Border Security Force (BSF) Punjab Frontier Headquarters in Jalandhar Cantonment created panic on Tuesday evening after a scooter parked close to the complex was destroyed in a sudden blast. The incident occurred near BSF Chowk at around 8 pm, prompting an immediate response from police and emergency teams.

Delivery Worker Injured After Sudden Explosion
According to initial information, Gurpreet Singh, a delivery employee associated with a private firm, had arrived at the BSF headquarters to hand over a parcel intended for a BSF official. While he entered the premises to complete the delivery, a powerful explosion reportedly took place outside, targeting the scooter he had used to reach the location.
The force of the blast completely damaged the two-wheeler and triggered a fire that spread rapidly. The explosion was strong enough to shatter window panes of a nearby structure, causing alarm among people in the surrounding area.
Officials said Gurpreet Singh had already moved some distance away from the scooter after delivering the package. Reports suggest he was nearly 50 metres away when the blast occurred. He sustained injuries in the incident and was later questioned by police as part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities Probe Possible Cause of Blast
Security agencies and local police have launched a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause behind the explosion. Early suspicions indicate that explosive material may have been present inside another parcel that reportedly remained on the scooter at the time of the incident.
Investigators are examining whether the undelivered package could have triggered the blast. However, officials have not yet released any confirmed findings regarding the source or nature of the explosion.
CCTV footage collected from nearby roads and commercial establishments is currently being reviewed to track movements around the area before the blast occurred. Forensic teams are also expected to inspect the remains of the scooter and surrounding debris to gather further evidence.
Loud Blast Creates Panic in Nearby Market Area
The explosion caused fear and confusion among local residents and traders near the cantonment zone. Several eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud sound that echoed across nearby localities.
Shopkeepers working in a vegetable market close to BSF Chowk claimed the explosion could be heard from nearly a kilometre away. Many residents rushed out of their homes and shops moments after the incident, while traffic movement in the area was temporarily affected as security personnel cordoned off the spot.
Police and Fire Teams Reach Spot Quickly
Following emergency calls from the area, police units and fire brigade personnel arrived at the location within minutes. Firefighters managed to control the flames before they could spread further.
A senior police official confirmed that the explosion was linked to the scooter parked near BSF Chowk. Authorities also stated that there were no fatalities in the incident, although the delivery worker suffered injuries.
Officials added that Gurpreet Singh has been taken into custody for questioning as investigators continue to examine all possible angles connected to the blast.
