Sanitation Workers – MCD Begins Fresh Verification Drive for 2002–2006 Workforce Records
Sanitation Workers –The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has launched the next phase of its record verification exercise by asking all zonal offices to submit authenticated details of sanitation workers engaged between April 2002 and April 2006. According to officials, the information must reach the civic body within 15 days and will be used to prepare a verified database of employees who may be considered for future regularisation under the prescribed process.
Zonal Offices Asked to Submit Complete Employee Records
Through an official circular, the MCD has instructed deputy commissioners across every zone to collect and forward records of substitute and daily-wage sanitation workers appointed during two specific periods: from April 1, 2002, to March 31, 2004, and from April 1, 2004, to April 10, 2006. The civic administration has made it clear that the information should be thoroughly verified before submission.
Detailed Information Required for Verification
The corporation has sought comprehensive employee records, including names, fathers’ names, dates of birth, BMID employee identification numbers, dates of first engagement, and confirmation from the respective zonal accounts departments. Officials have been instructed to provide the records in both printed form and Microsoft Excel format to ensure uniform documentation and easier scrutiny.
Strict Deadline and Accountability Measures
The circular also specifies that no additional names will be accepted after the prescribed deadline expires. To ensure accuracy, the MCD has cautioned that disciplinary action may be initiated against officials if any eligible sanitation worker is found to have been omitted from the verified records after the submission process is completed.
Exercise Intended to Build Verified Employee Database
Sandeep Kapoor, Chairman of the Department of Environment Management Services (DEMS) Committee, clarified that the present exercise should not be interpreted as an immediate decision on regularisation. He explained that the corporation is currently focused on preparing an authenticated database of eligible sanitation workers before any further administrative action is considered.
Kapoor noted that a similar exercise had earlier been carried out for sanitation workers engaged between 2000 and 2002. Following the verification of those records, the proposal for their regularisation received approval, a seniority list was prepared, and the related process is currently progressing. He said the corporation is now adopting the same procedure for employees appointed between 2002 and 2006.
Verification to Help Determine Eligible Workforce
According to officials, compiling verified records will enable the civic body to determine the exact number of workers who may qualify under future administrative decisions. The verification process is expected to provide a reliable foundation before any subsequent proposals are placed before the competent authorities.
Recent Developments in Regularisation Process
The latest verification exercise follows recent action taken by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi in connection with sanitation workers. Only a few weeks ago, the civic body distributed regularisation letters to 41 sanitation workers registered with the agency. It also published the seniority list of approximately 5,750 daily-wage sanitation workers, marking another step in the ongoing workforce management process.
