RoadSafety – A 68-year-old taxi driver lost his life after a speeding tempo allegedly struck him on the Aarey-Powai road in Mumbai’s Goregaon area. The accident took place around 11:30 am on June 24 near Unit No. 22, where the victim, identified as Mazharul Khan, was reportedly standing by the roadside when the vehicle hit him. The force of the collision caused serious injuries, leaving him in critical condition. Khan, a resident of Marol Sagbaug Sneh Sagar SRA Society in Andheri, had left home earlier that day to begin his regular work as a taxi driver.

Victim Succumbs During Medical Treatment

People present near the accident site quickly arranged for Khan to be taken to Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari, where doctors immediately started emergency treatment. Despite sustained medical efforts, his injuries proved fatal. Hospital authorities confirmed that he died at approximately 1:45 pm on the same afternoon. The incident has left his family and acquaintances in deep shock, as Khan had been following his normal work routine when the accident occurred.

According to family members, Khan had spent many years working as a taxi driver and was known for his disciplined daily schedule. His son, Istekhar Mazharul Khan, later approached the police to report the incident and seek legal action against the driver involved in the crash.

Complaint Leads to Criminal Case

Acting on the complaint submitted by the victim’s son, officers from Aarey Police Station registered a case against the tempo driver, identified as Dharmendra Yadav. Investigators have alleged that the vehicle was being driven in a negligent and rash manner, ultimately resulting in the death of the elderly taxi driver.

Police have invoked the relevant legal provisions dealing with careless driving and causing death through negligence. Officials stated that the investigation is progressing and that all available evidence, including witness accounts and other material, is being examined to establish the sequence of events.

Driver Reportedly Left the Scene

Initial findings suggest that the tempo driver did not remain at the accident location after the collision. According to police, the accused allegedly fled before authorities arrived, prompting an immediate search operation.

Investigating officers are working to trace the driver’s whereabouts and are gathering additional information from local sources. Police are also reviewing available evidence to determine the exact circumstances that resulted in the fatal crash.
