Relief –Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has announced financial assistance for flood-hit Assam after reviewing the worsening situation with his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The Chhattisgarh government will contribute Rs 5 crore towards relief and rehabilitation work in areas affected by the floods in Assam, officials said on Monday. The assistance is intended to support ongoing efforts to help families dealing with the impact of the natural calamity.
Vishnu Deo Sai Speaks With Assam Chief Minister
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai spoke by phone with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday to take stock of the flood situation. During the conversation, Sai was briefed on the conditions in the affected parts of the northeastern state and the challenges facing residents and authorities.
Following the discussion, the Chhattisgarh government decided to extend financial support of Rs 5 crore for relief and rehabilitation activities in Assam.
Message of Solidarity From Chhattisgarh
Sai expressed sympathy for families who have been affected by the floods and conveyed support from the people of Chhattisgarh. He said the state stood with the people of Assam as they faced the difficult circumstances created by the flooding.
The financial assistance is expected to contribute to relief measures and rehabilitation work in areas where communities have suffered losses because of the continuing deluge.
Assam Flood Situation Remains Critical
The flood situation in Assam continued to remain serious on Monday, with the official death toll reaching 100. According to an official bulletin, nearly 1.4 lakh people were affected by the floods across seven districts.
Authorities have continued to monitor river levels as several rivers were reported to be flowing above their danger marks. The rising water levels have also raised concerns about flooding spreading to additional areas.
More Than 1.37 Lakh People Affected
Official figures showed that more than 1,37,500 people were affected across Charaideo, Darrang, Golaghat, Jorhat, Karbi Anglong, Nagaon and Sivasagar districts.
