RajyaSabhaElection – Congress Prepares Strategy Ahead of Crucial Jharkhand Vote

RajyaSabhaElection –  The political atmosphere in Jharkhand has become increasingly active ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for June 18, with major parties taking steps to ensure smooth coordination among their legislators. A day before voting, the Congress is expected to gather its MLAs at a hotel in Ranchi, a move that comes shortly after the BJP-led NDA adopted a similar arrangement for its lawmakers.

Congress strategy before jharkhand rajya sabha vote

According to leaders from the ruling INDIA alliance, a meeting of coalition legislators is planned at the Chief Minister’s residence on Wednesday evening. The gathering is expected to focus on election strategy and final preparations for the contest involving two Rajya Sabha seats from the state.

Congress Denies Formal Relocation Plan

While party insiders suggested that Congress legislators could be accommodated at a hotel in the state capital before polling day, the party’s media department dismissed reports of any official relocation exercise. Congress media in-charge Rakesh Sinha stated that MLAs may visit a hotel where observers from the All India Congress Committee are staying, but insisted there is no need to move legislators elsewhere.

He expressed confidence in the ruling alliance’s numerical strength and said the party does not foresee any difficulty in securing victory during the election process.

Numbers Remain in Favour of INDIA Bloc

The Rajya Sabha election requires a candidate to secure at least 28 first-preference votes to win a seat. In the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly, the INDIA bloc currently enjoys a significant advantage with 56 legislators, while the NDA has 24 members.

The election has attracted attention because three candidates are competing for two available seats. The ruling alliance has fielded JMM leader Baidyanath Ram and Congress nominee Pranav Jha, while the opposition-backed candidate is Independent contender Parimal Nathwani, who has received support from the BJP-led NDA.

Mock Poll Conducted Before Voting

As part of preparations for the election, INDIA bloc legislators participated in a mock voting exercise. Senior Congress leader and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Radhakrishna Kishore said the practice session was organized to familiarize lawmakers with the voting procedure and eliminate any confusion during the actual poll.

According to Kishore, the trial exercise reflected the alliance’s internal calculations. During the mock poll, JMM candidate Baidyanath Ram reportedly secured 29 votes, while Congress candidate Pranav Jha received 27 votes.

The NDA, meanwhile, chose to house its legislators at a hotel on Tuesday, a move commonly adopted by political parties during important elections to maintain coordination and ensure the presence of all lawmakers on voting day.

Composition of Both Political Alliances

The NDA’s strength in the Assembly includes 21 MLAs from the BJP, along with one legislator each from the LJP (Ram Vilas), AJSU Party, JD(U), and the Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha.

On the other hand, the INDIA alliance consists of 34 legislators from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, 16 from Congress, four from the Rashtriya Janata Dal, and two members of CPI(ML) Liberation.

Background of the Vacant Seats

The current Rajya Sabha election was necessitated by two separate vacancies. One seat became vacant following the passing of veteran JMM leader and party founder Shibu Soren. The second vacancy arose after BJP member Deepak Prakash completed his term in the Upper House of Parliament.

With voting just hours away, both alliances are focusing on legislative discipline and electoral strategy as Jharkhand prepares to elect its new representatives to the Rajya Sabha.
