RajyaSabha – BJP Names Satish Poonia and Alka Gurjar for Rajasthan
RajyaSabha – Rajya Sabha nominations in Rajasthan gained momentum on Thursday after the Bharatiya Janata Party announced the names of senior leaders Satish Poonia and Alka Gurjar as its candidates for the Upper House of Parliament. The announcement was welcomed by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, who extended his congratulations and expressed confidence in their future role at the national level.

Chief Minister Praises Party Leaders
In a message shared on social media, the Chief Minister highlighted the long organisational experience and dedication of both leaders. He said Satish Poonia, who currently serves as the BJP’s Haryana state in-charge and previously led the party in Rajasthan, along with BJP national minister Alka Gurjar, have consistently contributed to strengthening the organisation through their work and commitment.
According to Sharma, their experience and understanding of public issues will help represent the interests and aspirations of Rajasthan effectively in Parliament. He also stated that their participation in the Rajya Sabha would support the broader goals of public welfare, transparent governance, and national development.
BJP Finalises Candidates for Upper House
The BJP formally announced Satish Poonia and Alka Gurjar as its nominees from Rajasthan for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. The decision comes as political parties across the country begin preparations for elections to several seats in the Upper House.
The nominations are considered significant for the party in Rajasthan, as both leaders have held important organisational responsibilities and have remained actively involved in party affairs for many years.
Satish Poonia Responds to Nomination
Following the announcement, Satish Poonia thanked the BJP leadership for placing its trust in him. He described the nomination as recognition of the efforts made by party workers rather than a personal achievement.
Poonia said the BJP has consistently valued its grassroots workers and provided opportunities based on dedication and service. He added that the responsibility of serving in the Rajya Sabha carries great importance and pledged to discharge his duties with honesty and commitment if elected.
Election Process Underway Across States
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has issued the notification for biennial elections to 24 Rajya Sabha seats spread across ten states. The electoral process has now officially commenced, with candidates already beginning to file their nomination papers.
Among the states going to polls, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat will each elect four members. Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh will see elections for three seats each, while Jharkhand will elect representatives for two seats. Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur and Meghalaya will each have one seat up for election.
By-Elections Also Announced
In addition to the regular biennial elections, the Election Commission has also announced by-elections for one Rajya Sabha seat each in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Odisha. The nomination process is currently in progress, and June 8 has been fixed as the final date for filing nomination papers.
With the election schedule now in motion, political activity is expected to intensify as parties finalise their strategies and candidates for the upcoming parliamentary contests.
