Rainfall – Weather System Triggers Widespread Showers Across Tamil Nadu

Rainfall – Several parts of Tamil Nadu are expected to receive rainfall on Monday as a low-pressure system positioned over the Karnataka coast and nearby Andhra Pradesh coastal areas continues to influence weather patterns across the region. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), the prevailing atmospheric conditions are likely to support widespread rain activity in multiple districts.

Rain and Thunderstorm Activity Expected

The weather department has predicted light to moderate rainfall in various parts of Tamil Nadu, along with isolated thunderstorms in some locations. Similar weather conditions are also likely to affect Puducherry and Karaikal during the day. Forecasters noted that the impact of the weather system could be more noticeable in western and southern districts where rainfall intensity may increase.

Heavy Showers Likely in Select Districts

Authorities have warned of heavy rainfall at isolated locations in districts including Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Kanyakumari, Erode and Salem. These areas may also experience thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour.

In addition, hilly regions of Coimbatore district and parts of Tenkasi and Tirunelveli are expected to witness similar weather conditions. Residents in these areas have been advised to remain cautious, particularly during periods of intense rainfall and gusty winds.

Temperatures May Gradually Ease

Meteorologists believe the expected rainfall could bring some respite from recent warm conditions across the state. However, daytime temperatures are likely to remain close to seasonal averages over the coming days.

The weather department stated that there is no major change anticipated in maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal between June 8 and June 11. Even so, temperatures could slowly decrease if rainfall becomes more widespread during the week.

Humidity to Continue Causing Discomfort

While showers may provide temporary relief, weather experts cautioned that heat-related discomfort is expected to persist in certain areas. Northern coastal districts of Tamil Nadu are likely to continue experiencing humid conditions, resulting from the combination of elevated moisture levels and warm temperatures.

Officials said that even when temperatures remain near normal, high humidity can make outdoor conditions feel significantly warmer, especially during the afternoon hours.

Chennai Forecast Indicates Unsettled Weather

For Chennai and surrounding suburbs, the forecast points to partly cloudy skies through the day. Isolated parts of the city may receive light to moderate rain along with thunderstorm activity.

Weather conditions are expected to become more unstable during the afternoon and evening, increasing the possibility of short-duration but intense showers in some localities. The maximum temperature in the city is likely to range between 39°C and 40°C, while minimum temperatures are expected to stay between 29°C and 30°C.

Public Advised to Monitor Official Updates

Weather officials have encouraged residents to stay informed through official forecasts and advisories, as rainfall distribution may vary from one district to another depending on local atmospheric developments.

People travelling outdoors have also been advised to take precautions against heat stress and remain alert to sudden thunderstorms, particularly during late afternoon and evening hours when weather conditions can change rapidly.
