Railways – Bengaluru and Tumakuru Rail Projects Receive Fresh Push for Timely Completion
Railways – Union Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna has directed railway officials to accelerate the execution of key infrastructure projects across Bengaluru and Tumakuru, emphasizing the need to complete ongoing works within the prescribed timelines. The review was conducted during a meeting with senior officials of South Western Railway on Tuesday.
Focus on Connectivity Enhancement Projects
During the review session, the minister examined the progress of several infrastructure initiatives, including Road Over Bridges (ROBs), Road Under Bridges (RUBs), Foot Over Bridges (FOBs), and new railway line developments in the Bengaluru and Mysuru railway divisions. These projects are aimed at improving transportation efficiency, reducing traffic congestion, and enhancing public safety at railway crossings.
Officials informed the minister that a total of 32 ROB and RUB projects are currently underway in the Tumakuru Lok Sabha constituency. These developments are expected to significantly improve road and rail connectivity across the region while facilitating smoother movement for commuters and freight traffic.
Multiple Bridge Works Progressing Across Tumakuru
According to the project update presented during the meeting, construction activities at several locations are advancing through different stages. Key sites include Panditanahalli, Maidala, Baddihalli, Batavadi, Heggere, Mallasandra, Benchegere, Nittur-Mysuru, Nandihalli Gate, along with important crossings situated on the BH Road corridor.
Reviewing the status of these projects, Somanna instructed officials to ensure that all pending works are completed during the 2026-27 financial period. He stressed the importance of adhering to deadlines to maximize the benefits for local residents and strengthen transportation infrastructure in the region.
Progress Reviewed on Tumakuru-Chitradurga-Davangere Rail Line
The minister also assessed the status of the 191-kilometre Tumakuru-Chitradurga-Davangere railway line project, which carries an estimated investment of Rs 1,801 crore. The project is considered an important component of railway network expansion in Karnataka and is expected to improve regional connectivity once operational.
Officials reported that more than 92 percent of the required land acquisition process has already been completed. They further stated that the Urukere-Thimmarajanahalli section has been prepared for commissioning and is awaiting the necessary inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS).
Based on the current pace of execution, railway authorities indicated that the entire project is likely to be completed by February 2028.
Tumakuru-Rayadurg Railway Project Nearing Key Milestones
Another major project discussed during the review was the Tumakuru-Rayadurg railway line, which has an estimated cost of Rs 2,496 crore. Railway officials informed the minister that 83 kilometres of the route have already been commissioned and opened for operational purposes.
The land acquisition process for this project has also made substantial progress, reaching nearly 97 percent completion. In addition, the Pavagada-Dodda Halli section has been fully prepared and is ready for formal inauguration.
The review meeting highlighted the government’s continued focus on strengthening railway infrastructure across Karnataka through improved connectivity projects, modern transport facilities, and the expansion of railway networks that support both passenger and freight movement.
