Politics – Tamil Nadu Cabinet Expansion Brings New Faces Into Key Ministries
Politics – Following a major restructuring exercise in the Tamil Nadu government, two more legislators are scheduled to join the state Cabinet on Friday as the administration led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay continues to widen its ministerial team.

Swearing-In Ceremony Scheduled in Chennai
According to an official statement issued from Lok Bhavan, the oath-taking ceremony will take place at 9:30 AM in Chennai. The two legislators set to assume ministerial responsibilities are AM Shahjahan of the Indian Union Muslim League, representing the Papanasam Assembly constituency, and Vanni Arasu of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi from the Tindivanam constituency.
Their inclusion follows recommendations made by the Chief Minister and subsequent approval from the Governor. The move is being viewed as part of a broader effort to strengthen administrative representation within the ruling alliance.
Cabinet Expansion Continues After Earlier Reshuffle
The latest induction comes just a day after the government carried out a wider Cabinet expansion involving several members of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. Multiple legislators were assigned fresh responsibilities across important departments on Thursday.
B Rajkumar was entrusted with the Housing and Urban Development portfolio, while Vijay Tamilan Parthiban A assumed charge of the Transport Ministry. RV Ranjithkumar was appointed Forests Minister, V Sampath Kumar received the Backward Classes Welfare department, and V Gandhiraj was given responsibility for the Co-operation Ministry.
With these appointments, the newly formed government completed the distribution of portfolios among 23 ministers.
Artificial Intelligence Department Introduced
One of the notable developments in the new administrative structure is the creation of a separate Artificial Intelligence department at the Cabinet level. Tamil Nadu has now become the second state in India after Kerala to establish an exclusive AI-focused ministry within the government setup.
The decision reflects the administration’s emphasis on technology-driven governance and digital development initiatives.
Chief Minister Retains Major Portfolios
Chief Minister Vijay has retained control of several influential departments, including Home, Police, Municipal Administration, and Urban Water Supply. In addition, he will continue overseeing Special Initiatives, Poverty Alleviation, and Rural Indebtedness-related matters.
Meanwhile, the Women Welfare department has been reassigned from the Chief Minister’s office to Minister K Jegadeshwari. She has been designated as the Minister for Social Welfare and Women Empowerment under the revised Cabinet structure.
Senior Leaders Receive Key Administrative Roles
Senior leader KA Sengottaiyan, who represents the Gobichettipalayam constituency, has been allocated the Revenue department. His responsibilities will include disaster management, district revenue administration, legislative assembly matters, and related governance functions.
The Finance portfolio has been assigned to N Marie Wilson, the legislator from Dr Radhakrishnan Nagar. Alongside finance matters, Wilson will oversee pensions, pensionary benefits, planning, and development-related responsibilities.
Congress Representatives Also Join Ministry
The Cabinet expansion also included representation from the Congress party. MLAs S Rajesh Kumar and P Viswanathan were sworn in as ministers, strengthening the alliance participation in the newly formed government.
Political observers believe the ongoing Cabinet restructuring reflects the administration’s attempt to balance governance priorities, coalition representation, and departmental specialization as the government begins its new term in office.
