Politics – Rajasthan Chief Minister Expands Village Outreach During Summer Visits
Politics – Amid rising temperatures across Rajasthan, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has intensified his direct interaction with rural communities by conducting village meetings and reviewing public welfare initiatives at the grassroots level.

As scorching heat continues to affect several districts in the state, the Chief Minister has been travelling to remote villages to hear public grievances and monitor the progress of government schemes. Through a series of “Gram Vikas Chaupals,” he has been engaging directly with local residents and issuing immediate instructions to officials regarding pending civic and welfare concerns.
Direct Interaction With Villagers
The outreach programme has covered districts including Pratapgarh, Sikar, Banswara, Ajmer, Jalore, and Jaipur. During these visits, Sharma has not limited his schedule to administrative meetings alone. He has also undertaken walking tours inside villages to understand the actual condition of roads, water supply, healthcare facilities, and development works.
Officials accompanying the Chief Minister have reportedly been directed to ensure faster implementation of welfare measures and address issues raised by residents without delay. The initiative is being viewed as an attempt to strengthen communication between the administration and people living in rural regions.
In Banswara district, which has a significant tribal population, Sharma attended a village Chaupal and later shared a meal at the residence of local resident Gattulal Yadav. The gesture attracted attention among villagers and local political observers, who saw it as part of the Chief Minister’s effort to maintain close public contact.
Statue Unveiling Event Draws Attention Over Poor Attendance
Meanwhile, a separate political discussion has emerged in Rajasthan following the unveiling ceremony of former Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat’s statue in Jodhpur. The event, organised to honour the veteran BJP leader, witnessed low attendance despite his towering legacy in state politics.
Shekhawat, often remembered as an “Ajatshatru” due to his ability to maintain cordial relations across political lines, remains one of Rajasthan’s most respected political figures. However, the sparse turnout at the commemorative event has triggered criticism within party circles.
Photographs showing empty chairs at the venue quickly became a topic of political discussion in the state. Sources within the party indicated that the BJP leadership expressed dissatisfaction over the organisational arrangements and weak public mobilisation for the programme.
Senior leaders reportedly summoned district-level organisers to Jaipur to review the situation. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is also said to have voiced concern regarding the poor attendance during the event, in the presence of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma.
Rajasthan Receives International Recognition For Tobacco Control
In another major development, Rajasthan has secured international recognition for its efforts in tobacco control and de-addiction programmes. According to official information, the World Health Organization has ranked Rajasthan first in the South-East Asia Region under the “World No Tobacco Day Award 2026.”
The recognition was granted after an evaluation of anti-tobacco initiatives and awareness campaigns carried out during the 2025-26 period. Rajasthan’s Department of Medical and Health was assessed on several parameters, including public awareness drives, grassroots implementation, and efforts aimed at reducing tobacco consumption.
Health officials stated that the state government has been actively working through community-level campaigns, school awareness programmes, and stricter enforcement against tobacco use in public places. The ranking is being seen as a significant achievement for Rajasthan on the international stage.
The award has also brought attention to the state’s broader public health initiatives, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas where de-addiction campaigns have been expanded over the past year.
