Politics – Punjab Congress Strengthens Booth Network Ahead of 2027 Poll Battle
Politics – The Punjab Congress has started a large-scale organisational exercise across the state as it prepares for the 2027 Assembly elections. The party has introduced a new structure of “booth sevaks” aimed at improving direct communication with voters and strengthening its presence at the grassroots level.

Focus on Booth-Level Political Outreach
According to senior party leaders, the new arrangement has been inspired by booth management systems previously seen in national political campaigns. Under this model, each booth sevak will be assigned responsibility for a polling booth covering nearly 800 to 900 voters. These workers will maintain regular contact with local residents and coordinate election-related activities in their designated areas.
Party functionaries said the initiative is intended to create a stronger connection between the organisation and voters long before the election process formally begins. The booth sevaks are expected to identify local concerns, gather feedback from households and help the party maintain continuous engagement with communities.
Large Team Planned Across Punjab
The Congress leadership has reportedly appointed nearly 25,000 booth sevaks throughout Punjab. In addition, around 1.25 lakh assistant booth sevaks are also being brought into the campaign structure. Each assistant worker will oversee communication with approximately 30 to 35 voters.
Senior leaders said these teams will regularly visit households over the coming months. The workers have been instructed to meet families multiple times to understand civic concerns, local development issues and voter expectations. The exercise is also expected to help the party strengthen coordination at the constituency level.
The party believes that repeated interaction with residents will improve organisational visibility and build trust ahead of the next state election.
Central Monitoring System Introduced
Congress leaders stated that all booth-related activities will be supervised through a central control mechanism operated by the All India Congress Committee (AICC). The monitoring system is expected to track coordination efforts, voter outreach programmes and organisational communication between different units of the party.
As part of the strategy, committees are also being formed between the booth and block levels. These committees will focus on smoother communication, faster reporting and better management of election-related work in rural and urban constituencies alike.
Party insiders said the centralised monitoring structure is being developed to avoid coordination gaps and ensure that booth workers remain active throughout the campaign period.
Discussions Held During Strategy Meeting
Sources within the organisation said the decisions were finalised during an extensive strategy session chaired by former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and AICC Punjab in-charge Bhupesh Baghel. The meeting reportedly included senior state leaders and district-level representatives.
During the discussions, leaders were advised to pay close attention to the ongoing revision and verification of electoral rolls. Party officials believe that accurate booth-level data and proper coordination will play an important role in organisational preparedness before the elections.
Leaders attending the session were also asked to strengthen communication channels with different sections of voters and improve mobilisation efforts on polling day.
Congress Leadership Highlights Direct Voter Contact
Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring confirmed that the party has decided to expand direct voter engagement through the appointment of booth sevaks. He said the effort is aimed at increasing interaction between party workers and local communities across the state.
Political observers believe booth-level management is becoming increasingly important in Indian elections, particularly in states where electoral contests are highly competitive. By focusing on regular voter outreach and local coordination, the Punjab Congress appears to be building an early organisational framework for the 2027 Assembly polls.
The initiative marks one of the party’s most extensive grassroots mobilisation programmes in recent years as it attempts to strengthen its structure across Punjab.
