Politics – Kapil Sibal Condemns Killing of Suvendu Adhikari’s Close Aide
Politics – Senior advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Thursday strongly criticised the killing of Chandranath, a close associate and personal aide of West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, stating that violence should never become part of democratic politics.

Sibal reacted to the incident through a post on social media platform X, where he expressed concern over the fatal attack and called for an end to political violence. He described the incident as deeply disturbing and stressed that such acts have no place in public life or political rivalry.
Fatal Shooting Near Madhyamgram
Chandranath was reportedly attacked on Wednesday near Madhyamgram in West Bengal. According to police sources, unidentified assailants opened fire on him, leaving him critically injured. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors later declared him dead.
The incident has triggered sharp political reactions across the state, with leaders from multiple parties expressing concern over the deteriorating law and order situation.
Suvendu Adhikari Calls Murder “Pre-Planned”
Speaking to reporters after the incident, Suvendu Adhikari described the killing as a “cold-blooded and carefully planned murder.” He urged BJP workers and supporters to remain calm while assuring them that the people responsible would be identified and punished through legal action.
Adhikari said preliminary information shared by senior police officials indicated that the attackers had allegedly conducted surveillance before carrying out the crime. According to him, the planning behind the attack suggested that the accused had monitored the victim’s movements for several days.
He also mentioned that senior BJP leaders at the national level had taken note of the incident. Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar reportedly spoke with both the victim’s family members and police officials to gather details about the investigation.
Police Continue Investigation
West Bengal Police have intensified their probe into the murder case. Director General of Police Siddh Nath Gupta confirmed that investigators recovered live ammunition and empty cartridges from the crime scene near Madhyamgram.
Police officials have also seized a vehicle believed to be linked to the attack. Forensic teams are examining evidence collected from the area, while investigators continue questioning witnesses and reviewing available surveillance footage.
Authorities have not yet announced any arrests in the case, but officials said multiple leads are being examined.
Eyewitnesses Describe Close-Range Attack
Eyewitnesses present near the location of the shooting claimed that the attackers fired at Chandranath from a very short distance. According to local residents, the nature of the attack suggested prior planning rather than a sudden confrontation.
Several witnesses also stated that panic spread across the area immediately after the gunshots were heard, prompting local people to rush toward the scene before police arrived.
The killing has once again brought political violence in West Bengal into focus, with opposition leaders demanding a thorough and impartial investigation. Political reactions continue to emerge as the probe progresses.
