Politics – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced nationwide protests following the Congress party’s demonstration outside the Prime Minister’s official residence, marking another escalation in the ongoing political standoff over the NEET-UG 2026 controversy.
The BJP is set to organise protests across the country on Wednesday outside Congress offices in response to the opposition party’s demonstration near the Prime Minister’s residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg a day earlier. Party sources said the decision was taken after senior BJP leaders described the Congress protest as inappropriate and inconsistent with established democratic norms.
BJP Calls Congress Protest Improper
According to BJP leaders, the planned demonstrations are intended to register the party’s objection to what it described as the Congress leadership’s conduct during the protest near the Prime Minister’s residence. The party argued that while democratic dissent is an essential part of public life, it should remain within legal and procedural boundaries.
Reacting to the development, BJP leader Nitin Nabin criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s actions, saying his conduct did not reflect the responsibility expected from someone serving as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. He stated that democratic opposition should remain distinct from activities that could create disorder or disrupt public order.
BJP Raises Concerns Over Security Protocols
BJP MP Sambit Patra also questioned the choice of venue for the Congress protest, stressing that demonstrations are an accepted democratic practice but must take place in accordance with existing rules and security guidelines.
Patra said the Prime Minister’s official residence is a highly protected location with strict security arrangements and established protocols. He argued that organising a protest in such a sensitive zone could create unnecessary security challenges. According to him, any large gathering near the residence could increase the risk of unauthorised individuals attempting to exploit the situation, making it important to follow designated procedures for public demonstrations.
He further maintained that democratic rights should be exercised responsibly while ensuring that national security arrangements are not compromised.
Political Tensions Intensify Over NEET-UG Issue
The Congress protest followed a day of intense political exchanges surrounding the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and claims of police action against students participating in demonstrations. The controversy dominated proceedings in Parliament, where repeated disruptions were witnessed as Opposition parties demanded a discussion on the examination issue.
Congress leaders continued to press the government for accountability over the examination controversy, while also raising concerns regarding the reported police action against unarmed student protesters. The party maintained that the Centre should address both issues through a transparent discussion in Parliament.
Parliament Witnesses Continued Confrontation
As political differences sharpened, senior Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, took part in the protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence, drawing strong criticism from the BJP. The ruling party has since announced coordinated protests outside Congress offices nationwide, signalling that the political confrontation between the two parties is likely to continue.
