Politics – BJP Faces Fresh Controversies Amid Gujarat Political Turmoil
Politics – The Bharatiya Janata Party has come under renewed political scrutiny in Gujarat after a series of controversies involving senior leaders, local election setbacks, and allegations from opposition parties created fresh debate across the state.

Remark During Celebration Draws Opposition Criticism
A recent event at the BJP headquarters ‘Kamalam’ in Gandhinagar turned politically uncomfortable for the ruling party after Gujarat BJP president Jagadish Vishwakarma incorrectly identified Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore as the writer of the patriotic song ‘Vande Mataram’. The composition was originally written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee.
The statement was made publicly during celebrations marking the BJP’s electoral victories in five states. Senior state leaders, including the chief minister and deputy chief minister, were present at the gathering when the error occurred.
The Congress quickly targeted the BJP over the incident. Congress leader Hemang Rawal accused the ruling party of using nationalist sentiments for political purposes and questioned how such a historical mistake could happen during an official celebration linked to a patriotic song deeply connected with India’s freedom movement.
Narmada Poll Defeat Triggers Internal BJP Dispute
The BJP is also facing internal tensions following its disappointing performance in local body elections in Gujarat’s Narmada district. The defeat has sparked criticism from within the party, with senior BJP MP Mansukh Vasava openly attacking district-level leadership during a strategy meeting.
According to party sources, Vasava expressed anger over the handling of the elections and demanded accountability from office-bearers. He reportedly alleged that certain district leaders maintained close links with opposition figure Chaitar Vasava, raising concerns about loyalty within the organisation.
The BJP parliamentarian also criticised district BJP chief Neel Rao, accusing him of remaining disconnected from grassroots political activity during the campaign period. In sharp remarks, he claimed that party workers on the ground were left unsupported while senior leaders remained inactive.
District in-charge Arjun Chaudhary also came under criticism during the discussions, highlighting growing dissatisfaction among sections of local BJP workers after the electoral setback.
Water Supply Allegations Intensify Political Clash in Morbi
Another controversy has surfaced in Morbi district, where the Congress has accused BJP representatives of discriminating against residents over political support during municipal elections.
The dispute emerged from Ward No. 3 after allegations were made that drinking water supply issues were ignored in areas where residents allegedly did not support BJP candidates. Former Morbi Congress president Mukesh Gami claimed that citizens facing severe summer water shortages were denied proper attention because of political differences.
The matter gained further attention after screenshots from a BJP election-related WhatsApp group circulated widely on social media. The screenshots allegedly showed conversations in which residents complaining about water scarcity in Mahendranagar were mocked instead of being provided assistance.
The BJP has not officially responded in detail to the accusations, but the controversy has added to the ongoing political confrontation between the ruling party and the opposition in Gujarat.
Opposition Seeks Political Advantage
The Congress is now attempting to use these developments to strengthen its criticism of the BJP ahead of future local and state-level political contests. Party leaders argue that the recent controversies reflect administrative failures, growing internal divisions, and disconnect between leaders and public concerns.
Political analysts believe that while isolated controversies may not significantly damage the BJP’s larger political standing in Gujarat, repeated public disputes and internal disagreements could create challenges for local leadership management in the coming months.
At the same time, the BJP continues to maintain strong organisational influence across the state despite facing criticism over governance and political conduct from opposition parties.
