PoliceReshuffle – Delhi Police Assigns Senior IPS Officers to Key Roles

PoliceReshuffle – A significant administrative reshuffle has been carried out in the Delhi Police, with several senior IPS officers receiving new responsibilities across law and order, intelligence, vigilance, and traffic divisions. The latest appointments come shortly after the transfer of top-ranking officers to Arunachal Pradesh and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Delhi police ips reshuffle news

The changes were announced through an official order issued by the Delhi Police administration. Senior IPS officer Neeraj Thakur, a 1994-batch officer from the AGMUT cadre, has been moved from the traffic department and appointed as Special Commissioner of Police for Law and Order Zone-II. Devesh Chandra Srivastava, a 1995-batch IPS officer who was previously handling the crime branch, has now taken charge as Special Commissioner of Police for Law and Order Zone-I.

Transfers Follow Recent Senior-Level Movements

The latest restructuring follows the recent transfer of Madhup Kumar Tiwari, who had earlier served as Special Commissioner of Police for Law and Order Zone-II. He was posted to Arunachal Pradesh on May 2. Around the same time, Ravindra Singh Yadav, who headed Law and Order Zone-I, was appointed Director General of Police of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Officials said the reshuffle is aimed at strengthening coordination across key policing units in the national capital. The appointments also involve several additional responsibilities being assigned to senior officers already serving in specialised departments.

Additional Charges Given to Senior Officers

David Lalrinsanga, a 1995-batch IPS officer currently serving as Special Commissioner overseeing Operations, PCR, and Communications, has been entrusted with additional charge of the Special Police Unit for Women and Children. He was already handling the Special Police Unit for the North Eastern Region.

The Special Police Unit for Women and Children plays an important role in cases involving women’s safety and child protection, while the North Eastern Region unit focuses on matters related to residents and communities from northeastern states living in Delhi.

In another change, the officer heading the Intelligence Division, who was also managing the Public Transport Safety Division, has now been appointed Special Commissioner of Police for the Traffic Department.

Changes in Vigilance and Protective Security Divisions

Senior IPS officer Ajay Chaudhary, a 1996-batch officer, has been shifted from the vigilance division to the Protective Security Division as Special Commissioner of Police. The Protective Security Division handles security arrangements linked to important installations and protected individuals in the capital.

Meanwhile, Atul Katiyar, a 1997-batch IPS officer, has been appointed as Special Commissioner in charge of the Vigilance Division. In addition to vigilance responsibilities, he will also supervise the welfare and licensing divisions.

Officials believe these changes are intended to streamline administrative operations and improve internal monitoring mechanisms within the force.

Former Andaman DGP Returns to Delhi

Another notable development in the reshuffle is the return of Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal to Delhi. The 1997-batch IPS officer had been serving as Director General of Police in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands before being transferred back to the national capital.

Dhaliwal previously worked in Delhi Police in senior positions related to traffic management and operational planning. His experience in handling large-scale city policing assignments is expected to contribute to the department’s ongoing administrative restructuring.

Intelligence and Transport Safety Departments Reorganised

The reshuffle also includes changes in intelligence and transport-related divisions. Senior IPS officer K Jegadesan, from the 1998 batch, has been appointed Special Commissioner of Police for the Intelligence Division. He will additionally oversee responsibilities linked to MD/DPHC.

At the same time, Vijay Kumar has been assigned additional charge of the Public Transport Safety Division while continuing his role as Special Commissioner of Police for the Armed Police unit.

The latest round of postings reflects a broader effort by Delhi Police leadership to reorganise senior-level responsibilities following recent interstate transfers of key officers.
