Pimpri Chinchwad – Garbage Slide Triggers Major Rescue at Moshi Building
Pimpri Chinchwad – Twelve people were rescued after a large garbage mound collapsed onto a three-storey building in the Moshi area of Pimpri-Chinchwad on Wednesday afternoon. Rescue teams continued operations for more than 17 hours, while officials said several people were still feared trapped beneath the debris.

Garbage Mound Falls on Residential Building
The incident took place at around 1.30 pm on July 8 near the Moshi waste depot. Authorities said a huge pile of waste reportedly slid onto the nearby building, causing significant structural damage and trapping people inside.
Around 23 people were believed to be in the building when the collapse occurred. Five occupants managed to get out shortly after the incident, while rescue workers later pulled more people from the debris during the evening.
Civic Teams Carry Out Delicate Search
Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation rescue personnel began the operation soon after receiving information about the collapse. By around 8 pm, six more people had been brought out safely, according to reports.
PMC Commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi said the search was being carried out carefully because of the unstable debris and the risk of further collapse. He said people rescued from the site had suffered minor injuries.
Officials said one of the survivors informed rescuers that communication with some people trapped inside had been possible. This gave rescue teams hope that more occupants could be safely brought out as the operation continued.
Multiple Agencies Join Emergency Response
The rescue effort involved teams from the National Disaster Response Force, the Indian Army, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation fire services, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority Fire and Disaster Response Team, police personnel and medical workers.
Heavy equipment, including JCB machines, was deployed to remove debris and create safe access points for rescue workers. However, officials said machinery was being used with caution because people were believed to be trapped under portions of the damaged structure.
The operation continued through the night as emergency teams worked to locate survivors and remove debris in a controlled manner. Authorities were monitoring the site closely due to the scale of the garbage mound and the condition of the affected building.
Injured Shifted to Hospitals
Those rescued from the building were taken to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital and a nearby private hospital for medical care. Officials said no life-threatening injuries had been reported among the people brought out during the rescue operation.
Civic authorities have not yet confirmed the final number of people trapped or the cause of the garbage slide. Further details are expected after the rescue work is completed and officials assess the condition of the building and surrounding waste depot area.
