Passport Verification – The Gujarat Police has introduced a major change to the passport verification process, making it easier for applicants by removing the requirement to visit police stations during routine verification. The revised system, announced on Tuesday, is aimed at improving convenience, reducing unnecessary procedures, and ensuring a faster and more transparent verification process for citizens applying for passports across the state.
New Guidelines Focus on Essential Verification
Under the updated instructions issued by Director General of Police Gyanendra Singh Malik, police officials have been directed to limit routine passport verification to confirming an applicant’s citizenship and checking criminal antecedents. Authorities have clarified that these two aspects will remain the primary focus during the verification process, eliminating several steps that were previously followed as standard practice.
The decision has been implemented across Gujarat and applies to all police stations and officers responsible for passport verification duties. Officials believe the streamlined approach will improve administrative efficiency while reducing the burden on applicants.
No Requirement to Visit Police Stations
One of the most significant changes under the revised procedure is that passport applicants will no longer be asked to appear at police stations for routine verification. The Gujarat Police stated that applicants can complete the process without making unnecessary visits, making the system more citizen-friendly.
The new instructions also specify that police personnel will not be required to obtain applicants’ signatures or conduct face-to-face meetings during regular verification. This marks a departure from earlier practices and is expected to save both time and effort for citizens.
Residential Address Checks No Longer Routine
The revised guidelines further clarify that police officers are not expected to carry out separate residential address verification as part of the standard passport verification process. Instead, officials will rely on the required checks related to citizenship and criminal background unless there is a specific reason for further examination.

Home Visits Restricted to Exceptional Cases
According to the Gujarat Police, officers will visit an applicant’s residence only under exceptional circumstances. Such visits will be carried out if officials detect suspicious information or believe additional verification is necessary before completing the report.
Even in these situations, applicants will not be asked to report to a police station. Instead, any required verification will be conducted through a visit to the applicant’s residence, ensuring that citizens are not subjected to unnecessary travel or procedural inconvenience.
DGP Directs Strict Compliance Across the State
Director General of Police Gyanendra Singh Malik has instructed all police personnel across Gujarat to follow the revised passport verification guidelines without exception. The state police administration has emphasized that the new framework is designed to improve transparency, simplify official procedures, and provide a smoother experience for passport applicants.
