ParliamentPolitics – Opposition Rift Deepens After MPs Exchange Fresh Allegations
ParliamentPolitics – A fresh political controversy has emerged after senior Jammu and Kashmir National Conference leader and Member of Parliament Aga Ruhullah made claims regarding an incident involving Trinamool Congress MP Yusuf Pathan during a previous session of Parliament. The remarks surfaced shortly after Pathan reportedly joined a group of dissenting MPs within the Trinamool Congress, creating further debate over internal differences among opposition leaders.

Claims Linked to Winter Session Protest
In a post shared on social media platform X, Ruhullah recalled events from the last winter session of Parliament when opposition parties were staging protests over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) issue and several other matters. According to him, Trinamool Congress lawmakers were actively participating in demonstrations inside the House and were among the most visible voices during the protest.
Ruhullah alleged that during the protest, a prominent Muslim parliamentarian from a party other than the Trinamool Congress confronted Yusuf Pathan and urged him to step away from the demonstration. He claimed that the exchange took place in full view of several members present in the House.
Alleged Warning to Yusuf Pathan
The National Conference MP further stated that Pathan eventually returned to his seat after the interaction. Ruhullah said he noticed a visible change in Pathan’s demeanor and felt he appeared unsettled following the conversation.
According to Ruhullah, when he later approached Pathan to ask what had happened, the former cricketer allegedly revealed that the other MP had advised him not to oppose the BJP. Ruhullah claimed the warning included concerns that taking a confrontational stance could result in difficulties for Pathan and his family in Gujarat, including fears about possible action against his property.
These remarks quickly attracted political attention, particularly because they surfaced amid growing tensions within opposition ranks.
Mahua Moitra’s Account of the Incident
Ruhullah also recalled that Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra joined the conversation shortly afterward and sought details about the situation. He alleged that after learning about the reported warning, Moitra encouraged Pathan not to be intimidated and assured him that party colleagues would stand by him.
In his social media post, Ruhullah expressed disappointment over Pathan’s recent political position, suggesting that some leaders who had received support from colleagues later distanced themselves from those who had defended them.
Moitra Identifies the MP
Responding publicly to Ruhullah’s statements, Mahua Moitra claimed that the parliamentarian referred to in the account was AIMIM chief and MP Asaduddin Owaisi. In her post on X, Moitra criticized Yusuf Pathan and expressed regret over having supported him during the alleged incident.
Her remarks added another dimension to the controversy, bringing additional opposition figures into an already heated political discussion.
Ruhullah’s Position Within His Party
The episode has also drawn attention to Ruhullah’s own political standing. Reports in recent months have suggested that relations between the MP and the National Conference leadership have been strained. Political observers have linked the differences to his views on issues connected to Article 370.
There have also been claims that Ruhullah has not been participating in some internal party discussions and meetings, although no formal statement has been issued by the party leadership regarding his status.
As political reactions continue, the controversy highlights the challenges facing opposition parties as they navigate both internal disagreements and broader parliamentary strategies ahead of future political contests.
