Parliament – Opposition Plans Fresh Protest During Monsoon Session Over Key Issues
Parliament –The Opposition is preparing to hold another protest at the Makar Dwar of Parliament on Monday as it continues to demand a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. Opposition parties are seeking an official response regarding the police action taken against demonstrators during the July 20 protest in Delhi. They also intend to raise the issue of the alleged Ram Mandir donation theft during the day’s proceedings.
Opposition Keeps Pressure on Government
The planned demonstration comes as political tensions remain high inside and outside Parliament. Opposition leaders have maintained that the government should clarify its position on the police response during the Delhi protest and address concerns surrounding the alleged irregularities linked to Ram Mandir donations. The coordinated protest is expected to bring these issues back into the national spotlight as the Monsoon Session continues.
Recent Controversies Add to Political Tensions
Political attention has also been drawn to recent events involving Purnea MP Pappu Yadav. Last week, Yadav generated controversy after symbolically portraying a priest while collecting donations during a protest against the alleged Ram Mandir donation theft issue. Separately, Sunday’s reported attack on the MP in the national capital has further intensified political discussions ahead of Monday’s parliamentary proceedings.
FCRA Amendment Bill May Be Introduced
The eleventh day of the Monsoon Session is also expected to be significant because of speculation that the government could introduce the proposed Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) Amendment Bill. If presented, the legislation is likely to trigger another round of debate between the ruling alliance and Opposition members, who have already been engaged in repeated confrontations during the current session.
Congress MP KC Venugopal said he had no confirmed information about whether the government would bring the proposed Bill before Parliament. However, he reiterated that the Opposition would continue demanding a statement from the Home Minister on issues it has consistently raised, including the alleged use of force against protesters and students in Delhi.
BJP Calls for Smooth Functioning of Parliament
On the other hand, BJP MP Manish Jaiswal stressed that Parliament should focus on legislative business and public welfare. While stating that he was not aware of the government’s immediate legislative schedule, he emphasized that Parliament’s responsibility is to debate and pass laws that serve the interests of the people.
Jaiswal also accused the Opposition of repeatedly disrupting House proceedings instead of participating in discussions through established parliamentary procedures. According to him, Parliament provides multiple avenues, including Question Hour and debates, for members to raise public concerns without interrupting legislative work.
Another Confrontational Day Expected
With both sides standing firm on their positions, Parliament is expected to witness another day of sharp political exchanges. The Opposition is likely to continue pressing for answers from the government on the police action and the alleged Ram Mandir donation matter, while the Centre is expected to focus on advancing its legislative agenda during the ongoing Monsoon Session.
