Train Fire – Blaze Erupts on Bihar Passenger Train, Prompting Swift Emergency Response

Train Fire – A fire broke out on Monday in the engine and a nearby coach of the Samastipur–Saharsa Passenger Train while it was stationed at Platform No. 2 of Simri Bakhtiyarpur railway station in Bihar’s Saharsa district. The incident caused panic among passengers as thick smoke and flames spread through part of the train. Firefighters worked for more than three hours to contain the blaze, deploying four fire engines to prevent it from extending to other coaches. Officials have not yet confirmed the exact reason behind the incident, although an electrical short circuit is being considered as one possible cause.

Emergency Teams Responded Without Delay

Fire and railway authorities reacted quickly after receiving reports of the blaze. Assistant Fire Officer Niranjan Kumar said his department dispatched two fire tenders from Saharsa immediately after the emergency call was received. As the scale of the fire became clear, additional firefighting vehicles were sent to strengthen the response. Rescue personnel focused on controlling the flames and ensuring that the fire did not spread further across the train or surrounding railway infrastructure.

Passengers Escaped Amid Smoke and Flames

Several passengers described the frightening moments when the fire broke out. Mohammad Yusuf, who was travelling on the train, said many people were asleep when others began shouting that the train had caught fire. According to him, passengers woke up to find dense smoke filling the coach, while flames had already spread through a section of it. He added that the train guard immediately attempted to tackle the fire using an onboard extinguisher before emergency services reached the station.

Passengers rushed out of the affected coach in an orderly manner, helping one another during the evacuation. Their quick response, combined with the prompt efforts of railway staff, helped prevent the situation from becoming more serious.

Firefighting Continued for Several Hours

The operation to extinguish the fire continued for more than three hours as firefighters worked carefully to bring the blaze under control. Authorities remained at the scene throughout the operation to monitor the situation and ensure passenger safety. Railway officials also coordinated with emergency teams while access to the affected area was restricted during the firefighting process.

The extended operation reflected the need to fully extinguish the flames and eliminate any remaining risk before normal railway activities could resume.

Authorities Begin Investigation Into Cause

Officials have started an investigation to determine what triggered the fire. While an electrical short circuit is one of the possibilities being examined, authorities said no conclusion will be drawn until a detailed technical inspection is completed. Railway engineers and fire department personnel are expected to inspect the damaged engine and coach to establish the exact sequence of events.

At the time of reporting, there were no confirmed reports of deaths or injuries linked to the incident. Authorities are expected to release further information once the investigation progresses and the assessment of the damaged train is completed.
