OrganDonation – Andhra Pradesh Achieves First Pancreas Donation Under AP Jeevan Daan Initiative

OrganDonation – Andhra Pradesh has reached a significant milestone in its organ donation programme with the State’s first pancreas donation carried out under the AP Jeevan Daan initiative. The achievement followed the generous decision of the family of a young road accident victim, whose donated organs are expected to improve the lives of several patients waiting for life-saving transplants.

Family’s Decision Brings Hope to Multiple Patients

The donor was identified as 26-year-old Marishetty Chinna Rao, a resident of Munagapaka village in Anakapalli district. He suffered critical injuries in a road accident and was admitted to KIMS ICON Hospital in Visakhapatnam for emergency treatment. Despite sustained medical efforts, doctors later confirmed that he had been declared brain dead in accordance with established medical protocols.

During this difficult period, healthcare professionals spoke with the family about the possibility of organ donation and explained how a single donor could help save multiple lives. After understanding the impact of the decision, the family gave consent for the donation of his organs.

With the family’s approval, doctors successfully retrieved both kidneys, the liver, and the pancreas for transplantation. The donated organs will be allocated to eligible recipients registered under the organ transplant programme, offering renewed hope to patients who have been waiting for suitable donors.

The pancreas donation is especially noteworthy, as it represents the first such donation under the AP Jeevan Daan programme in Andhra Pradesh. Medical experts said the development reflects the growing awareness of organ donation and the increasing participation of families in supporting the initiative.

Officials Highlight Importance of Public Awareness

AP Jeevan Daan State Coordinator Dr. Manmadha Rao said the landmark donation is an important achievement for the State’s organ donation and transplantation network. He noted that awareness and timely counselling play a vital role in helping families make informed decisions during emotionally challenging situations.

According to officials, the willingness of donor families is essential for strengthening the organ donation system and improving access to life-saving transplants for patients with serious medical conditions. Every successful donation can benefit several individuals by providing organs that would otherwise remain unavailable.

Strengthening the State’s Transplant Programme

Healthcare authorities believe this milestone will encourage more people to understand the importance of organ donation and discuss their wishes with family members in advance. Increasing public participation can help reduce the gap between the number of patients waiting for organ transplants and the availability of donated organs.

The State’s AP Jeevan Daan programme continues to promote ethical and transparent organ donation while supporting hospitals, medical professionals, and donor families throughout the process. Officials expressed gratitude to the family of Marishetty Chinna Rao for their compassionate decision, describing it as an act that will leave a lasting impact on the lives of several patients in need.
