NEETPaperLeak –The Centre has expressed its willingness to hold a detailed discussion in Parliament on the alleged NEET paper leak controversy, stating that it is prepared to answer every concern raised by the Opposition.
Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Thursday accused Opposition parties of avoiding a substantive debate by attaching pre-conditions to the discussion. Speaking in the Lok Sabha, he said the government was fully prepared to engage in a comprehensive debate and present its position on the allegations surrounding the NEET paper leak. His remarks came after Opposition leaders continued to demand the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan before any discussion could take place.
Government Offers Flexible Debate Schedule
Addressing the House, Rijiju said the government had no objection to an extensive debate and was open to allowing Opposition members as much time as they required. He added that discussions could continue for two days if necessary and that the Opposition itself could suggest the date and duration of the proceedings in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
According to the minister, the government had already reached out to the Congress and other Opposition parties to facilitate a structured discussion on the matter. He maintained that the Centre was ready to address all issues related to the examination controversy through parliamentary debate rather than prolonged disruptions.
Opposition Continues Demand for Minister’s Resignation
Despite the government’s offer, Opposition members maintained their demand that Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan step down before any debate takes place. The disagreement over this issue led to continued protests inside Parliament, preventing normal proceedings from moving forward.
The political standoff has kept the alleged examination irregularities at the centre of the ongoing parliamentary session, with both sides accusing each other of delaying meaningful discussion.
House Proceedings Witness Repeated Interruptions
The exchange took place after the Lok Sabha reconvened at noon following an earlier adjournment. However, disruptions continued, forcing the House to be adjourned again until 2 pm amid loud protests over the NEET paper leak issue.
The repeated interruptions reflected the sharp differences between the government and the Opposition regarding the conditions under which the discussion should be held.
Speaker Appeals for Order During Question Hour
Earlier in the day, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla urged members to allow the House to function smoothly, stressing the importance of completing Question Hour before taking up other matters.
Birla assured members that the government was prepared to discuss every issue after Question Hour. He appealed to all political parties to participate in the debate through parliamentary procedures rather than disrupting the functioning of the House.
His appeal highlighted the need to balance legislative business with discussions on issues of public concern, including the controversy surrounding the NEET examination.
Opposition Leaders Meet Lok Sabha Speaker
As the deadlock continued, senior Opposition leaders met Speaker Om Birla to press for an early discussion on the issue. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav were among those who attended the meeting.
Leaders from the Trinamool Congress, including Saugata Roy and Mahua Moitra, also participated in the discussions. The meeting focused on finding a way to resolve the impasse and ensure that Parliament could take up the issue while allowing normal legislative business to continue.
