NEET Exam Security – Centre Reviews Intensify Ahead of June Retest

NEET Exam Security – The Union Education Ministry has stepped up preparations for the upcoming NEET-UG re-examination by reviewing existing security arrangements and discussing additional safeguards aimed at preventing any irregularities during the nationwide test scheduled next month.

The review meeting was chaired by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and attended by senior officials from the Education Ministry, the National Testing Agency (NTA), and members of the high-powered oversight panel led by former ISRO chief K. Radhakrishnan. The committee was established to monitor the implementation of reforms suggested for strengthening the examination system after the controversy surrounding the previous exam.

Focus on Stronger Examination Monitoring

During the meeting, officials examined the current surveillance and monitoring systems that will be used during the NEET-UG re-examination on June 21. Discussions mainly focused on improving security procedures at examination centres and ensuring that the process remains transparent and free from malpractice.

According to officials, the NTA also presented a detailed plan outlining additional steps being introduced to tighten security and improve coordination across all centres. NTA Director General Abhishek Singh briefed the participants on measures designed to ensure the smooth conduct of the examination and prevent any repeat of earlier lapses.

Education Ministry Stresses Student-Friendly Arrangements

The Education Minister highlighted that maintaining the integrity of the examination process remains a top priority. At the same time, he instructed authorities to ensure that students appearing for the test are provided with proper facilities and a comfortable environment at exam centres across the country.

Officials said the ministry wants examination venues to remain secure without creating unnecessary inconvenience for candidates. The discussions also included arrangements related to crowd management, verification procedures, and coordination with local authorities.

Background of the Re-Examination

The NEET-UG examination has been conducted by the National Testing Agency since 2019 and serves as the gateway for admission to undergraduate medical courses across India. However, the examination conducted on May 3 was cancelled after allegations of question paper leaks emerged from multiple locations.

The controversy triggered widespread concern among students and parents, leading the government to announce a fresh examination date and initiate a broader review of the testing system.

Following the incident, the Centre constituted a seven-member expert committee headed by K. Radhakrishnan to recommend long-term reforms for conducting secure and reliable examinations in the future.

Committee Recommendations Under Review

Among the key recommendations discussed by the committee are proposals to gradually move the examination system toward a fully digital format and strengthen staffing within the NTA by appointing permanent personnel. Officials believe these changes could improve accountability and reduce operational risks during large-scale competitive examinations.

The committee has also emphasised the need for stronger technological surveillance, better coordination between agencies, and stricter monitoring mechanisms at examination centres.

Large-Scale Preparations Across India

The upcoming NEET-UG re-test is expected to witness participation from more than 22 lakh candidates. Authorities are preparing to conduct the examination at over 5,400 centres located across nearly 550 cities in India and abroad.

Given the scale of the examination, officials said extensive planning is underway to ensure that every centre follows uniform security guidelines. Additional monitoring teams and upgraded verification systems are also likely to be deployed as part of the revised arrangements.

The ministry has indicated that restoring confidence among students and parents remains one of its primary objectives as preparations continue for the June 21 examination.
