BJP Records Majority Across Ward Committees

Polling took place between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. for the election of chairpersons, deputy chairpersons, and Standing Committee representatives. According to the declared results, the BJP won nine of the twelve ward committee leadership positions and captured five of the six Standing Committee seats, giving the party a significant edge in Delhi’s municipal administration.

Results from Key Municipal Zones

In the Najafgarh zone, BJP candidates secured both the chairperson’s office and the area’s Standing Committee seat. Shahdara North also remained in the party’s control, where Pankaj Luthra was elected chairperson while Brijesh Singh took charge as deputy chairperson.

The Shahdara South zone delivered another comprehensive victory for the BJP. Yashpal Singh was chosen as chairperson, Raju Sachdeva became deputy chairperson, and Munesh was elected as the zone’s representative to the Standing Committee.

Keshavpuram witnessed a similar outcome, with Vineet Vohra winning the chairperson’s position and Meenu Goel being elected deputy chairperson. Sushil secured the Standing Committee seat from the same zone, adding to the party’s overall tally.

Mixed Outcomes in Other Zones

The South Zone also voted in favour of the BJP, electing Dharmvir Singh as chairperson and Mamta Yadav as deputy chairperson. In the City SP zone, BJP candidate Usha Sharma was elected chairperson, while the deputy chairperson’s post went to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) representative Shamim Bano.

The Civil Lines zone elected BJP leader Gulab Singh as its chairperson, further expanding the party’s list of victories across the capital’s municipal divisions.

AAP Registers Success in Select Areas

Although the BJP dominated the overall results, the Aam Aadmi Party managed to retain influence in a few locations. In the Rohini zone, AAP candidates Pushpa and Ramesh Chand won the chairperson and deputy chairperson positions respectively, marking one of the party’s notable performances during the elections.

The West Zone produced a split verdict. BJP’s Harish Oberoi was elected chairperson, while AAP’s Dimple Ahuja secured the deputy chairperson’s post, resulting in representation from both parties in the zone’s leadership.

Standing Committee Continues to Play Key Role

The elections were also important because of the Standing Committee’s central role in the functioning of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. The 18-member committee is responsible for approving major civic projects, financial proposals exceeding ₹5 crore, contracts, and several important policy decisions. Since March, the committee has been operating with only 12 members, making these elections essential for strengthening its composition.

Poll Schedule Revised Before Voting

The civic elections had initially been planned for June 3 but were postponed before being rescheduled for July 15. Following the completion of voting and declaration of results, the BJP now holds a stronger position in both ward committees and the Standing Committee, while the Aam Aadmi Party continues to maintain representation in selected municipal zones.
