Mumbai University – Exams Cancelled in Palghar and Panvel Due to Heavy Rainfall

Mumbai University – The University of Mumbai has cancelled examinations scheduled for Thursday, July 2, 2026, at colleges in Palghar district and areas under the Panvel Municipal Corporation. The move comes as persistent heavy rainfall has disrupted daily life and prompted local authorities to declare a holiday for educational institutions.

Mumbai university exams cancelled palghar panvel rain

University officials said the decision was made with student safety in mind. Candidates due to appear for examinations in the affected locations will receive revised dates through the university’s official website.

Official Notice Cites Local Holiday Orders

The university’s Examination and Evaluation Board issued the notification after receiving directions from the Palghar District Collector and the Panvel Municipal Corporation Commissioner. Both authorities announced closures for colleges on July 2 because of the continuing rain.

In its update on X, Mumbai University said that examinations planned in colleges across Palghar district and within the Panvel Municipal Corporation jurisdiction had been called off for the day. The institution added that a new examination schedule would be released online once dates are finalised.

The cancellation applies only to examination centres and colleges covered by the two affected administrative areas. Students outside these locations should follow the existing timetable unless their college or the university issues a separate notice.

Students Asked to Follow University Updates

Students whose papers were scheduled in Palghar or Panvel have been advised not to rely on unofficial messages circulating on social media. They should check the University of Mumbai website regularly for confirmed details about rescheduled examinations.

The university has not yet announced when the cancelled papers will be held. It is expected to share the updated timetable after assessing weather conditions and coordinating with colleges and examination centres.

College administrations may also provide instructions to students once the revised dates are released. Candidates are being encouraged to keep their hall tickets and other examination documents ready for the new schedule.

Palghar Schools and Colleges Shut Amid Weather Warning

The wider closure of educational institutions in Palghar followed a heavy rainfall warning issued by the India Meteorological Department. Schools and colleges throughout the district were directed to remain closed as a precautionary measure.

The order was issued by the District Collector, who also heads the District Disaster Management Authority. Local officials have asked residents to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel in areas affected by waterlogging, and follow advisories issued by the administration.

Heavy rain has affected movement in several parts of the district, raising concerns about student travel and access to college campuses. The holiday declaration was intended to reduce risk during the adverse weather spell.

Raigad District Also Announces Education Closures

Rain-related disruptions have also been reported in neighbouring Raigad district. District authorities ordered the closure of schools and anganwadis in Alibag, Panvel, Uran, Shrivardhan, Tala, Poladpur and Mhasla talukas for the day.

The closure orders reflect the broader impact of the monsoon across parts of Maharashtra, where intense rainfall has affected transport, public services and routine educational activities.

For Mumbai University students in Palghar and Panvel, the immediate priority is to wait for the official rescheduling notice. The university has said the replacement examination dates will be published on its website after the situation is reviewed.
