Manipur Violence – Three Killed and Homes Destroyed in Kangpokpi Attack
Manipur Violence – Fresh violence in Manipur has claimed three lives and left several families homeless after an early morning attack in Kangpokpi district, raising concerns about security in the troubled region.

A renewed episode of violence unfolded in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district during the early hours of Friday when three members of a Kuki family, including a woman, were killed and multiple houses were set on fire. The incident occurred in Loibol Khullen village, located in the Saitu-Gamphazol subdivision, at around 4 a.m.
Victims Identified Following Deadly Assault
The deceased have been identified as Letkhongam Haokip, his wife Tinmary Haokip, and Jangminlal Haokip. Local reports indicate that the victims were caught in the attack that struck the small village before dawn, creating panic among residents.
In addition to the loss of lives, seven houses were reportedly reduced to ashes, leaving affected families facing significant hardship. The destruction of residential properties has added to the distress of villagers already living amid prolonged uncertainty.
Kuki Organisation Levels Serious Allegations
The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), a prominent Kuki civil society organisation, strongly condemned the incident and alleged that armed members linked to the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM), along with an alleged associated group known as the Zeliangrong United Front, were responsible for carrying out the attack.
According to the organisation, the assault targeted civilians and residential properties, resulting in fatalities and widespread damage. KIM described the violence as a serious violation of basic human rights and human dignity.
Demand for Investigation and Accountability
In its response, KIM urged the Central Government and security agencies to launch an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the incident. The organisation called for the identification and arrest of those involved and stressed the need for prompt legal action.
The group stated that attacks directed at civilians and the destruction of homes cannot be justified under any circumstances. It emphasized that ensuring accountability is essential to restoring confidence among affected communities.
Calls for Enhanced Security Measures
KIM also appealed for stronger security arrangements in vulnerable villages across the region. The organisation warned that without additional protection, civilians could remain exposed to further violence.
Community leaders have repeatedly expressed concerns about the safety of remote settlements, particularly in areas that have witnessed recurring tensions over the past several years. The latest incident has renewed demands for preventive measures aimed at safeguarding residents and preventing future attacks.
Tensions Continue in Sensitive Region
The attack has further heightened tensions in a district that has experienced repeated episodes of ethnic and insurgency-related unrest. Security concerns remain a major challenge as authorities work to maintain peace in several sensitive pockets of the state.
At the time this report was prepared, government authorities had not released an official statement regarding the incident. Investigations and verification efforts are expected to continue as security agencies assess the situation on the ground.
