LakshmiYojana – Delhi Lakshmi Yojana Records Strong Rise in Women’s Registrations
LakshmiYojana – The Delhi government’s flagship support programme for eligible women has witnessed a rapid increase in registrations, reflecting strong public participation since the online application process began.

Registration Numbers Continue to Climb
The Delhi Lakshmi Yojana received a significant response on Tuesday as the number of women enrolling for the scheme crossed 2.65 lakh by 2 p.m., according to official figures. During the same period, 52,175 applicants had successfully completed and submitted their final applications.
The latest update showed a notable increase compared to the figures recorded earlier in the day. By 7 a.m. on Tuesday, more than 2.38 lakh women had registered, while 38,076 had completed the full application process. Officials said the steady rise indicates continued interest in the scheme among eligible beneficiaries.
Monthly Financial Support for Eligible Women
The Delhi Lakshmi Yojana has been introduced to provide eligible women with financial assistance of Rs 2,500 every month. However, the government says the initiative is intended to achieve more than just monthly cash support.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the programme has been structured to promote financial inclusion by encouraging savings, expanding digital financial access, strengthening social security coverage and supporting long-term financial planning. According to the government, this approach makes the scheme different from conventional welfare programmes focused only on direct transfers.
Three-Year Programme Expected to Reach 17 Lakh Women
The state government plans to implement the scheme for an initial period of three years. During this phase, nearly 17 lakh eligible women are expected to benefit from the programme.
The Chief Minister formally launched the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana on Saturday along with the dedicated online registration portal. Officials said the portal recorded more than 33,730 registrations within the first 12 hours of becoming operational. During that initial period, 1,940 applicants also completed the final submission process.
Name Changed to Reflect Broader Vision
The Chief Minister explained that the Delhi Cabinet had originally approved the programme under the name Mahila Samriddhi Yojana. It was later renamed Delhi Lakshmi Yojana to better represent its larger objective of supporting women’s dignity, financial independence and economic progress.
According to the government, the redesigned framework aims to help beneficiaries not only meet immediate financial needs but also build lasting financial security through structured savings.
Two Financial Options Available for Beneficiaries
Women enrolled under the scheme will be able to select one of two payment models based on their financial preferences.
Under the first option, Rs 1,000 will be transferred every month to a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) wallet for routine household expenses, while the remaining Rs 1,500 will be deposited into a recurring deposit (RD) or fixed deposit (FD) account.
The second option allows the complete monthly assistance of Rs 2,500 to be deposited directly into an RD or FD account. The government says this model is designed for beneficiaries who wish to build long-term savings while earning interest on their deposits.
Digital Restrictions Planned for Welfare Spending
To ensure that public funds are used for essential family requirements, the government has proposed a digital negative list for the CBDC wallet.
Under this arrangement, money credited to the wallet cannot be used for purchasing alcohol, tobacco products, narcotic substances, lottery tickets, gambling services, betting activities or any other items prohibited by the government from time to time. Officials said these safeguards are intended to ensure that financial assistance supports household welfare and responsible spending.
