LakhpatiBitiya – Delhi Expands Outreach for Revised Girls’ Welfare Scheme

LakhpatiBitiya – The Delhi government has cleared 945 new applications under the Lakhpati Bitiya Scheme during the past three months, as it prepares a wider public outreach drive to improve awareness of the revised programme. Officials said the campaign will include metro announcements, school-based information efforts and training sessions for district-level staff to help more eligible families understand the scheme.

Scheme Replaces Earlier Ladli Programme

The Lakhpati Bitiya Scheme replaced the Ladli Scheme in April after the government introduced updated provisions for girl beneficiaries. According to an official from the Women and Child Development Department, the programme has more than 9.32 lakh active beneficiaries since its original launch in 2008.

Families already receiving support under the earlier scheme have been shifted to the revised framework. New applicants can now submit their details through a dedicated online portal, which has been introduced to make the enrolment process more accessible and easier to track.

The revised scheme is intended to provide financial support for the education and long-term development of girls from eligible households. It also includes wider benefits for students continuing their studies after school, including those pursuing graduation and professional diploma courses.

Awareness Gap Remains a Major Concern

Officials said the department’s main challenge is reaching families who may qualify for the scheme but are not yet aware of the changes. Many parents and guardians are still unfamiliar with the expanded support available under the updated provisions, particularly for girls moving into higher education.

To address this gap, the department has already issued advertisements and is preparing additional information material for distribution in different parts of the city. Posters, pamphlets and leaflets are expected to be used in public spaces, schools and district offices to explain eligibility conditions, application procedures and benefits.

Metro jingles are also being considered as part of the awareness campaign. The government believes public announcements on the Delhi Metro network could help reach a large number of commuters, including parents, students and guardians who may not receive information through schools or local offices.

District Officers to Receive Training

The Women and Child Development Department will begin training district-level nodal officers from July 4. These officers will be briefed on the revised rules, online application process and the support available to beneficiaries under the new structure.

The training is expected to help officials guide applicants more effectively and resolve queries related to documentation, eligibility and enrolment. Department representatives said better coordination at the district level will be important for ensuring that the scheme reaches families across Delhi.

A joint advisory is also being prepared by the Women and Child Development Department and the education department. The advisory is expected to encourage schools to share information about the scheme with eligible students and their families.

School outreach is likely to play an important role because many of the revised benefits are linked to continued education. Officials said teachers and school administrators can help identify students who may qualify and direct families to the online application portal.

Rohini Amusement Park Proposal Takes Shape

In a separate development, the Delhi Development Authority is considering a large amusement park project in Rohini. Officials said the proposed facility is planned as part of efforts to expand recreational options in the area.

The project may be developed on approximately 54.7 acres of land in Sector 34, Rohini. While detailed planning and approvals are still expected, the proposed amusement park could become a significant leisure destination for residents of north-west Delhi.

Authorities have not yet announced a construction timeline or the range of facilities that may be included in the project. Further details are likely to emerge after planning and development proposals are finalised.
