Kolkata – Tiljala Police Arrest Man Following Sexual Assault Complaint

Kolkata –  Police in Kolkata’s Tiljala area have arrested a man after a young woman alleged that he sexually assaulted her while she was staying at the home of a friend. Officers said the arrest was made on Wednesday night after the woman’s family submitted a written complaint.

Complaint filed after victim informed relatives

According to police, the woman had known the accused’s daughter for several years and was familiar with the family. She had reportedly been staying at their residence for a few days because of difficulties at her own home.

Investigators said the complaint alleges that the man assaulted her inside the house on more than one occasion when other members of the family were not present. The woman later informed her relatives and her friend after her health reportedly worsened.

Alleged threats cited in police complaint

Police said the complainant initially did not speak about the alleged incidents because she was frightened. The complaint also alleges that the accused threatened her with serious harm if she told anyone about what had happened.

Officials have not released the identity of the woman, in line with legal protections for survivors of sexual violence. Authorities have also withheld further personal details because the case remains under investigation.

Medical examination and statement process underway

Following the complaint, the woman was taken for a medical examination. Her statement is also being recorded as part of the investigation, police said.

The accused was taken into custody on Wednesday and a case has been registered under relevant provisions of law, including charges related to rape. Police said the exact sections invoked will be examined along with the evidence gathered during the inquiry.

Investigators examining evidence and witness accounts

Tiljala police are collecting evidence, recording statements and reviewing the circumstances described in the complaint. Officers said they will examine all available material before drawing conclusions about the allegations.

The investigation will include the woman’s statement, medical findings, possible witness accounts and other evidence that may be relevant to the case. Police said the inquiry is at an early stage and further details cannot be shared at present because of the sensitive nature of the matter.
