Kerala Rain Update -Kerala is facing an intense spell of rainfall, prompting the state government to strengthen emergency measures as rescue and relief efforts continue in several affected districts.

The Kerala government has stepped up its response to widespread rain-related disruptions by calling a high-level review of the evolving weather situation. Chief Minister VD Satheesan has scheduled a virtual meeting with all district collectors to assess the impact of continuous rainfall, evaluate preparedness, and ensure that emergency response systems remain fully operational. The review is expected to focus on rescue operations, public safety, and coordination among district administrations.

Heavy Rain Triggers Flooding and Landslides

Persistent downpours have caused flooding in several low-lying regions while landslides have been reported from vulnerable areas across the state. Authorities are closely monitoring conditions as water levels continue to rise in multiple locations. In Pathanamthitta district, the situation remains sensitive, particularly in Ranni, where a recent flash flood had already affected the region. Fresh rainfall has further increased water levels, raising concerns among officials.

Red Alert Issued Around Moozhiyar Dam

The catchment area of the Moozhiyar Dam remains under a Red Alert due to the continuous inflow of water. Officials have warned that the dam gates may need to be opened if rainfall persists and reservoir levels continue to rise. As a precaution, residents living along the banks of the Pamba River have been advised to remain alert and be ready to shift to safer places if instructed by the district administration.

Casualties and Damage Across the State

According to official information released by the government, eight people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents, while eight others are still missing. Thirteen people have also sustained injuries during the ongoing spell of severe weather. Relief efforts have expanded significantly, with approximately 5,792 people taking shelter in 209 relief camps established across different parts of Kerala.

The heavy rains have also caused substantial property damage. Government data shows that 27 houses have been completely destroyed, while another 196 homes have suffered partial damage. Officials stated that financial support will be extended to families affected by the disaster, including those who lost relatives, homes, agricultural crops, or other sources of livelihood.

Government Assures Continued Support

The Chief Minister has remained in constant contact with ministers overseeing different districts and senior district officials to monitor developments and coordinate relief measures. The state government said all departments are prepared to respond to any emergency and appealed to the public to strictly follow official advisories issued by local authorities.

The administration also assured that injured people would receive the best available medical treatment. In addition to compensation for families of those who died, assistance will be provided to people whose homes, crops, and livelihoods have been severely affected. Officials reiterated that the government would continue extending every possible form of support until normalcy is restored.

Rahul Gandhi Appeals for Public Cooperation

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, expressed sorrow over the loss of lives caused by the heavy rains in Kerala. In a message shared on X, he conveyed condolences to the families of those who died and wished a speedy recovery for those injured. He also expressed hope that the missing people would be located safely.

Rahul Gandhi called upon Congress workers and volunteers to actively participate in relief and rehabilitation activities wherever needed. He urged people, particularly those living in hilly regions and flood-prone areas, to stay vigilant and carefully follow instructions issued by government authorities. Stressing the importance of collective support during the crisis, he said the people of Kerala stand together in facing this challenging situation.
