Investment – Dwarka Positioned for Stronger Growth Through Infrastructure and Policy Reforms
Investment – Delhi’s Lieutenant-Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has outlined a roadmap to transform Dwarka into a leading commercial and economic destination, highlighting the importance of modern infrastructure, sustainable industrial expansion and investment-friendly policies. During an interaction with representatives from multiple industries, he said the long-term development of the sub-city depends on balanced urban planning that supports businesses while maintaining environmental standards.

Sustainable Development Remains the Core Focus
Addressing the gathering, Sandhu said economic progress should not come at the expense of environmental protection. He stressed that future industrial expansion in Dwarka must remain clean and non-polluting, ensuring that the area’s ecological balance is preserved. According to him, industries that create employment opportunities while following sustainable practices should receive priority, allowing local residents to benefit directly from the city’s economic transformation.
Dwarka’s Strategic Location Offers Investment Advantages
The Lieutenant-Governor described Dwarka as one of Asia’s largest planned urban developments with significant potential to attract domestic and international investment. He noted that the sub-city’s proximity to the Indira Gandhi International Airport, well-developed transport links and rapidly improving civic infrastructure provide a strong foundation for business growth.
He added that sectors including commerce, hospitality, healthcare, education and technology are well positioned to expand in the region. The meeting brought together stakeholders from the real estate, infrastructure, healthcare and hospitality industries, along with senior officials from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), the Delhi Government and the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO).
Policy Changes Discussed to Improve Business Climate
The discussions focused on identifying reforms that could make Dwarka a more attractive destination for investors. Sandhu said existing planning regulations should be reviewed to match evolving urban requirements. He specifically highlighted the need to reassess Floor Area Ratio (FAR) norms and introduce sector-specific policy measures that can strengthen Delhi’s competitiveness as an investment destination.
Participants also explored ways to simplify regulatory procedures so that businesses can establish and expand operations with greater efficiency.
Industry Representatives Recommend Faster Approvals
Business leaders attending the meeting suggested several measures aimed at encouraging investment. Among the key recommendations were strengthening urban infrastructure, expanding research and innovation facilities, introducing a more effective single-window clearance system and reducing delays in approval processes.
Representatives also advocated greater support for hospitality, tourism, healthcare, information technology, IT-enabled services and knowledge-based industries. They emphasised that encouraging research and development activities, along with the establishment of global capability centres, could significantly enhance Dwarka’s economic profile.
The participants further highlighted the role of world-class convention and exhibition facilities such as Yashobhoomi and Bharat Mandapam. They said these venues, supported by sufficient hotel infrastructure, could attract international conferences, business events and investment opportunities that would contribute to the city’s long-term economic expansion.
Authorities Reaffirm Commitment to Planned Growth
DDA Vice-Chairman N. Saravana Kumar said the authority has already allocated land for future development projects and continues to work closely with various government agencies to simplify approval procedures for investors.
Meanwhile, the Additional Chief Secretary (Industries) assured industry representatives that the government remains committed to creating a business-friendly environment. He said work is progressing on a new Industrial Policy, greater integration of approvals across departments and financial support initiatives designed to improve the Ease of Doing Business and encourage fresh investments across Delhi.
