Investment – Andhra Pradesh Seeks Larger Role in Expanding India-Russia Industrial Cooperation
Investment – India and Russia are exploring new avenues of economic cooperation, with Andhra Pradesh positioning itself as a major destination for international investment in technology, aerospace, energy, and advanced manufacturing sectors. During the India-Russia Business Forum held alongside the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Andhra Pradesh Minister for Human Resource Development and Information Technology Nara Lokesh encouraged Russian companies to consider the state as a long-term business partner for future growth and industrial expansion.

Focus on Strengthening Economic Ties
Addressing business leaders and industry representatives, Lokesh highlighted the growing economic relationship between India and Russia and stressed the importance of expanding cooperation beyond traditional diplomatic engagement. He said the two nations have built a reliable partnership over decades, creating opportunities in energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, and emerging technologies.
According to the minister, Andhra Pradesh can play a significant role in helping achieve the bilateral trade objective of USD 100 billion by 2030, a target outlined by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin. He emphasized that deeper industrial collaboration could contribute substantially to this goal.
Legacy of Cooperation Drives New Opportunities
Lokesh noted that India and Russia have shared a long history of collaboration in several landmark projects. He referred to major initiatives in steel production, nuclear energy, defense technology, and space exploration as examples of the trust developed between the two countries over many decades.
He stated that this strong foundation continues to support modern partnerships in strategic sectors. Existing investments by Russian companies in India, including major energy and industrial projects, demonstrate the potential for expanding cooperation into new business areas and advanced technologies.
Andhra Pradesh Promotes Space Sector Development
A significant portion of the minister’s presentation focused on Andhra Pradesh’s ambitions in the space industry. He recalled that India’s first satellite, Aryabhata, was launched with Soviet assistance in 1975, describing it as an early symbol of successful collaboration between the two nations.
Highlighting the state’s growing role in India’s space ecosystem, Lokesh pointed out that Sriharikota, home to the country’s operational spaceport, is located in Andhra Pradesh. The facility has supported more than 100 space missions and remains a key center for national space activities.
To build on this legacy, the state government is developing specialized infrastructure aimed at attracting research institutions, technology companies, and space-sector investors.
Tirupati Space City Project Unveiled
Among the major initiatives announced was the proposed Tirupati Space City project. Spread across approximately 2,800 acres, the development is expected to benefit from its proximity to Sriharikota and serve as a hub for space-related industries.
The project is planned to support activities such as satellite production, launch vehicle assembly, avionics manufacturing, and research-driven innovation. Officials believe the initiative can attract both domestic and international companies looking to participate in India’s rapidly growing space economy.
Manufacturing and Technology Investment Push
Lokesh also presented Andhra Pradesh as an attractive destination for Russian firms seeking opportunities under India’s self-reliance and industrial development programs. He highlighted the state’s infrastructure, industrial corridors, and policy support designed to encourage foreign investment.
The minister identified several sectors with strong potential for collaboration, including aerospace, semiconductors, microelectronics, artificial intelligence, drone technology, naval systems, and advanced manufacturing. Particular attention was given to the state’s Advanced Manufacturing Cluster located near Bengaluru in Sri Sathya Sai district, which is expected to serve as a major center for high-technology production.
He concluded by expressing confidence that future India-Russia cooperation could extend into cutting-edge industries, creating new economic opportunities while strengthening the long-standing relationship between the two countries.
