Investigation – Elderly Sisters Found Dead Inside Delhi Home, Probe Underway
Investigation – Two elderly women were discovered dead inside their residence in central Delhi’s New Rajinder Nagar locality on Thursday morning, prompting an investigation by local authorities. Police officials said the circumstances surrounding the deaths remain unclear, and a detailed inquiry has been initiated to determine what happened.
Maid Alerts Police After Detecting Unusual Odour
According to police, the matter came to light at around 10:30 a.m. when a domestic worker contacted authorities after noticing a strong foul smell coming from House No. R-852. The woman, who routinely cleaned the exterior portion of the property, informed officers that all doors appeared shut and that the smell seemed to be coming from inside the house.
A police team was immediately dispatched to the location. Upon entering the premises, officers found two elderly women lying unresponsive inside one of the rooms. Officials identified them as Chandrakanta, aged 80, and Saroj Bala, also 80. One of the women was found on a bed, while the other was lying on the floor.
Preliminary Examination Raises Questions
Senior police officials stated that both women had been living together in the house for several years. During the initial assessment, authorities observed facial injuries on one of the deceased women. Investigators said the injury could possibly be linked to an accidental fall, though they stressed that the exact cause of death cannot be determined until post-mortem findings are available.
Joint Commissioner of Police Madhur Verma said the seriousness of the case requires a thorough examination. He noted that post-mortem procedures are underway and further clarity is expected once the medical reports are received.
No Evidence of Forced Entry Found
Investigators examining the property reported no immediate signs of forced entry or disturbance. The single-storey residence has four access points, but all appeared intact during inspection. Police also found no indications of ransacking or any struggle inside the house.
The absence of visible intrusion has added complexity to the investigation, prompting officials to examine multiple possibilities while awaiting forensic and medical evidence.
Long-Term Residents of the Property
During inquiries in the neighbourhood, police learned that Saroj Bala was unmarried and had been residing in the house with her sister-in-law, Chandrakanta, for many years. Residents familiar with the family confirmed that the two women had been living together without any immediate family members staying at the property.
Authorities are now attempting to contact relatives residing in west Delhi. Their statements will form part of the ongoing investigation and may help establish a clearer timeline of events leading up to the deaths.
Forensic Teams Collect Evidence
Crime scene specialists and forensic experts visited the residence to document evidence and conduct a detailed inspection. Medical personnel who arrived at the scene examined both women and officially declared them dead.
The bodies were later transported to RML Hospital for legal and medical procedures under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Police officials emphasized that no indication of criminal involvement has emerged during the preliminary stage of the investigation. However, they added that all possible angles are being carefully reviewed until conclusive findings are available through forensic analysis and autopsy reports.
As investigators continue their work, authorities have urged caution against speculation, stating that the final cause of death will only be confirmed after all medical and forensic examinations are completed.
