Infrastructure – PM Modi Launches Major Development Projects Across Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka
Infrastructure – Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to begin a day-long visit to Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka on Saturday, where he will unveil and launch several projects covering aviation, highways, renewable energy, semiconductor manufacturing, and cultural development. The initiatives are expected to improve connectivity, strengthen industrial growth, and create new employment opportunities across both states.
New International Airport to Strengthen Andhra Pradesh Connectivity
One of the key highlights of the visit is the inauguration of the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram in Andhra Pradesh. Built under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model with an investment exceeding Rs 5,640 crore, the Greenfield airport has been designed to accommodate nearly six million passengers every year.
The new airport is expected to improve domestic and international air connectivity while supporting tourism, trade, investment, and local employment. Ahead of the inauguration, the Prime Minister stated on social media that the airport represents a modern and future-ready aviation facility that combines improved connectivity with sustainability and energy-efficient infrastructure.
Semiconductor Facility Marks a Milestone for the State
During his visit to Visakhapatnam, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for the ASIP Semiconductor Project, the first semiconductor manufacturing facility approved in Andhra Pradesh under the India Semiconductor Mission.
The project, with an estimated investment of Rs 460 crore, is expected to produce nearly 96 million semiconductor chips every year. Apart from boosting domestic electronics manufacturing, the facility is likely to generate skilled jobs and encourage the growth of supporting industries in the semiconductor sector.
Renewable Energy Transmission Network to Expand
The Prime Minister will also launch and lay the foundation stone for multiple power transmission projects designed to support renewable energy generation across Andhra Pradesh.
Among the major initiatives is the Transmission System for the Integration of the Kurnool-IV Renewable Energy Zone Phase-I, a 4.5 GW project being implemented by Powergrid with an investment of about Rs 5,550 crore. In addition, transmission systems for the Kurnool Wind Energy Zone, Solar Energy Zone, and renewable power projects in Ananthapuram and Kurnool, together valued at more than Rs 4,300 crore, will also be inaugurated.
These projects are intended to improve the evacuation and nationwide transmission of clean energy through the National Grid, supporting India’s expanding renewable energy capacity.
Highway Projects Expected to Improve Regional Transport
National Highway projects worth around Rs 1,880 crore will also be dedicated to the nation during the visit. These include four-lane Greenfield highway stretches between Recherla and Guruvaygudem, Guruvaygudem and Devarapalle on NH-365BG, along with other road infrastructure works.
The upgraded highway network is expected to reduce congestion in Vijayawada and nearby urban centres, improve road safety, shorten travel time between Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad, and strengthen regional transportation links.
Cultural Centre to Be Inaugurated in Mysuru
After concluding his engagements in Andhra Pradesh, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Mysuru in Karnataka to inaugurate the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre, known as Viveka Smaraka, before addressing a public gathering.
The centre has been developed to honour Swami Vivekananda’s historic visit to Mysuru in 1892. Built at the historic Niranjana Math campus across more than 81,000 square feet, the facility houses a 4-D Experience Centre, exhibition galleries, a 700-seat amphitheatre, classrooms, conference halls, a library, meditation and yoga spaces, reading rooms, a book stall, and dedicated study facilities for students preparing for competitive examinations.
Focus on Growth, Technology and Infrastructure
The Prime Minister’s visit reflects the government’s continued emphasis on expanding modern infrastructure, strengthening clean energy networks, encouraging advanced manufacturing, and preserving cultural heritage. Officials believe the projects launched during the visit will contribute to long-term economic development, improve public infrastructure, and enhance connectivity across Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
