Infrastructure – Delhi Set to Open Barapullah Phase-III Corridor by June End
Infrastructure – Delhi’s long-delayed Barapullah Phase-III corridor is now approaching completion, with the city government targeting an official launch before the end of June. Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said during a review visit on Tuesday that the elevated stretch is expected to be ready for inauguration by June 30 after years of interruptions and construction-related delays.

Final Review Conducted at Project Site
The minister visited the construction site along with senior engineers and department officials to assess the remaining work and monitor the pace of development. According to officials associated with the project, the final phase involves finishing structural elements, road surfacing, safety installations and supporting infrastructure before the corridor is opened for public use.
The Barapullah Phase-III project has remained under discussion for several years due to repeated delays linked to environmental permissions, technical redesigns and procedural complications. Work on several sections had slowed over time, resulting in extended completion deadlines. Authorities now claim that close supervision and regular inspections have helped speed up pending activities during the last phase of construction.
Corridor Expected to Reduce Major Traffic Pressure
Once operational, the corridor is expected to improve connectivity across several important traffic routes in east and south Delhi. The flyover extension is designed to provide smoother movement between Sarai Kale Khan, Mayur Vihar, NH-24, Ring Road and the DND Flyway, areas that frequently witness heavy traffic congestion during peak hours.
Transport planners believe the new route could help reduce travel time for daily commuters while easing pressure on existing roads connecting residential and commercial zones. Officials also expect the project to strengthen connectivity for motorists travelling between Noida and central parts of Delhi.
The elevated road network is part of a broader effort to improve urban mobility and reduce bottlenecks across the capital. Several infrastructure projects in Delhi have focused on expanding road corridors and streamlining traffic movement as vehicle numbers continue to increase across the region.
Dedicated Cycle Track Added to Corridor
One of the major features of the project is the inclusion of a dedicated cycle track alongside pedestrian-friendly pathways. Officials have described it as one of the first flyover corridors in India designed with separate cycling infrastructure integrated into the elevated road system.
Urban planners say such facilities may encourage short-distance eco-friendly travel and improve accessibility for non-motorised commuters. Footpaths and safety barriers are also being developed to support pedestrian movement along connected stretches.
Government representatives have stated that future transport projects in the city may increasingly include similar features aimed at balancing road expansion with sustainable mobility initiatives.
Engineering Design Focused on Yamuna Floodplain Protection
Another significant aspect of the project is the bridge section passing through the Yamuna floodplain area. Engineers involved in the construction said the structure has been designed with spans of nearly 125 metres to reduce interference with the river’s natural water flow.
Officials noted that the design was planned carefully to minimise structural impact on environmentally sensitive zones while maintaining traffic efficiency. Environmental considerations had earlier contributed to delays in execution, especially during the approval and redesign stages.
The project is now considered to be in its final construction cycle, with finishing work continuing under government supervision. If completed within the announced timeline, the Barapullah Phase-III corridor will become one of Delhi’s major transport infrastructure additions aimed at improving connectivity across key urban routes.
