Infrastructure – Delhi Government Clears Key Flyover Expansion to Ease Traffic Pressure
Infrastructure – The Delhi government has received approval from the Railways for the expansion of the existing Railway Over Bridge at Haiderpur Badli on the Outer Ring Road, a move expected to improve traffic movement in several congested areas of North-West Delhi. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the development on Sunday, stating that the project is part of a broader plan to address long-standing traffic bottlenecks in the capital.
Major Relief Planned for Mukarba Chowk Traffic
According to the government, the widening of the Railway Over Bridge is aimed primarily at reducing congestion near Mukarba Chowk, one of Delhi’s busiest traffic junctions. Daily commuters travelling through the Outer Ring Road corridor frequently face heavy delays due to the continuous movement of commercial and passenger vehicles in the area.
Officials believe that the expansion work will significantly improve traffic flow and reduce waiting time for motorists. The bridge serves as a key connection point for several residential and industrial zones in North-West Delhi.
Elevated Loop Project Also Receives Approval
Along with the bridge expansion, authorities have also cleared the proposed elevated loop linking Shalimar Bagh with Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar. The loop will pass above railway tracks and is expected to streamline vehicle movement between major transport hubs and nearby residential sectors.
The corridor is considered strategically important because of the high volume of freight and commercial transport vehicles operating around Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar. Improved road connectivity in the region is expected to reduce pressure on surrounding roads and improve travel efficiency for commuters and transport operators.
Railways Grants In-Principle Clearance
The Public Works Department had earlier submitted technical proposals for both projects to the Railways for examination. After reviewing the plans in detail, railway authorities found the proposals technically suitable and granted an in-principle No Objection Certificate following approval from the Divisional Railway Manager.
The Railways has instructed that all construction activities must strictly follow prescribed engineering standards and safety measures. Officials have also directed that the work should be carried out under proper technical supervision to ensure railway operations remain unaffected during the construction phase.
Government Focuses on Long-Term Traffic Solutions
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the administration is identifying critical congestion points across Delhi and preparing long-term infrastructure solutions to address increasing traffic demand. She noted that areas such as Mukarba Chowk, Outer Ring Road and the Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar corridor continue to witness extremely heavy vehicle movement throughout the day.
The government expects these projects to strengthen road connectivity across North-West Delhi while cutting travel time for thousands of daily commuters. Better infrastructure, officials say, will also support commercial transportation and reduce traffic pressure on nearby roads.
Push for Modern Transport Infrastructure
The Chief Minister added that transport and infrastructure development projects in Delhi are progressing through coordinated efforts between the Centre and the state administration. She said the focus remains on building a modern and efficient urban transport network capable of meeting future demands.
According to the government, ongoing road and mobility projects are being aligned with broader development goals aimed at creating seamless connectivity and improving public convenience across the capital. Authorities believe that faster road movement and upgraded infrastructure will play a major role in supporting Delhi’s expanding transport requirements in the coming years.
