Immigration – Mangaluru Police Detain 11 More Bangladeshi Nationals From Construction Sites
Immigration – Mangaluru City Police have detained 11 Bangladeshi nationals, including four minors, during inspections at two construction sites, taking the total number of such detentions in the city to 19 within the past few days.

Authorities carried out the operation on Monday at construction sites located near Kodical and KPT, both falling under the jurisdiction of the Urwa Police Station. The latest action comes shortly after Surathkal Police detained eight Bangladeshi nationals from a construction site in Mukka on July 10. With the two operations combined, officials have now taken 19 Bangladeshi nationals into custody as part of an ongoing verification drive.
Individuals Identified During the Operation
The people detained in Monday’s operation have been identified as Mohammed Imran Ali (17), Mohammed Kausar Ali (21), Mohammed Nur Amin (34), Mohammed Nahidul Islam (22), Mohammed Humayon Kobir (22), Mohammed Romjan Ali (23), Mohammed Rehad Ali (17), Mohammed Jakariya Ali (16), Mohammed Abdul Rahaman Royel (19), Mohammed Israfil Ali (15), and Mohammed Noyan (24). According to the police, all of them are residents of Bangladesh’s Rajshahi district.
Officials said that some of those detained had been working and living in Mangaluru for nearly five months, while others had arrived around three months ago. The group was reportedly employed as construction labourers at the sites where the inspections were conducted.
Police Probe Recruitment Network
Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy stated that the workers were allegedly brought to Mangaluru through a middleman based in West Bengal. The intermediary is also believed to have transported Indian labourers from various states along with the Bangladeshi nationals. The commissioner said legal proceedings would be initiated against the middleman as part of the investigation.
The police are examining how the workers entered the city and whether additional individuals were involved in facilitating their movement and employment. Investigators are also looking into the recruitment process and related documentation.
Deportation Process Underway
According to the Police Commissioner, the detained individuals will be referred to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) for further action. A report is being prepared, and the process of collecting documents required for verification and possible deportation has already begun.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Mithun H. N. said preliminary findings indicate that the group crossed the international border through the Murshidabad region before reaching different parts of India. He added that most of those detained were unable to produce valid Indian identity documents during verification. In a few cases, officials reportedly recovered identity documents suspected to be forged.
Public Asked to Share Information
The city police have appealed to residents to cooperate by informing authorities if they have credible information regarding foreign nationals residing illegally in Mangaluru. Officials said public support can help strengthen ongoing verification efforts and ensure compliance with immigration laws.
Police also cautioned employers against hiring individuals without verifying their legal status and identity documents. Authorities warned that anyone found providing employment to illegal migrants could face legal action under the applicable laws as investigations continue.
