Immigration – Five Bangladeshi Citizens Detained in Delhi Over Visa Violations
Immigration – Delhi Police have detained five Bangladeshi nationals for allegedly remaining in India after the validity of their visas had expired. The action was carried out during a special verification campaign aimed at identifying foreign nationals staying in the country without proper authorization.

Investigation Began After Local Complaint
According to police officials, the case came to light after information was received about a minor dispute involving two groups in the Mukherjee Nagar area of north-west Delhi. During the incident, two individuals were reportedly communicating in Bangla, which drew the attention of local residents. Their prolonged presence in the locality raised concerns, prompting residents to alert the police.
Following the tip-off, officers from Mukherjee Nagar Police Station launched an inquiry to verify the identities and legal status of the individuals involved. A dedicated team was assigned to conduct checks and establish whether the suspects were legally residing in the area.
Verification Leads to Discovery of Additional Residents
During the inquiry, police located the two individuals and questioned them regarding their stay in Delhi. Investigators subsequently learned that both men were living in a rented accommodation in Indira Vikas Colony along with three other Bangladeshi nationals.
Further verification of documents and travel records revealed that all five individuals had entered India through legal channels on separate occasions using air travel. However, authorities found that their visas had expired and they had continued staying in the country beyond the permitted duration.
Plans to Travel Abroad Delayed
During questioning, the detainees reportedly told investigators that they had come to Delhi while pursuing employment opportunities in Greece. Police said the group had been waiting since December 2025 for interview calls or job-related communication connected to potential overseas work.
As those opportunities did not materialize within the expected timeframe, they continued living in Delhi. Authorities stated that despite the expiration of their visas, the individuals did not leave India or obtain the required extension of stay.
Identities of the Detained Individuals
The five Bangladeshi nationals have been identified as Rahmat Ullah, 23; Mohd Ashraful, 23; Salman Bhuiyan, 25; Md Rashel, 37; and Md Rahim Mia, 33.
Police said all of them belong to the Parmandapur area of Sarail in Bangladesh’s Brahmanbaria district. Investigators are examining their travel history and circumstances surrounding their stay in India.
Role of Associate Under Investigation
Authorities also discovered that after arriving in Delhi, the group initially stayed at different hotels across the city. Once their visas expired, they allegedly moved to rented accommodation in Mukherjee Nagar with the assistance of a person identified as Ganpati Biswas, who is reported to be a resident of Malda Town in West Bengal.
Police officials said efforts are ongoing to locate and question Biswas. Investigators are seeking to determine his involvement in facilitating accommodation and support for the foreign nationals after their authorized stay had ended.
Deportation Process Initiated
Delhi Police stated that legal proceedings have been initiated in accordance with applicable immigration and foreign nationals regulations. The detained individuals were produced before the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer for further action.
Officials confirmed that deportation procedures have been started and will be carried out as per established legal protocols. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to examine all aspects of the case and trace individuals connected to the matter.
