Illegal Cough Syrup Racket: ED Raids Several Sites in Jharkhand, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh

Illegal Cough Syrup Racket: The Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) Lucknow section raided sites in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Jharkhand on Friday morning that were connected to Shubham Jaiswal, the primary suspect in the illicit cough syrup ring.

Based on more than 30 FIRs filed over the previous two months about the illicit cough syrup trade, the ED started its inquiry.

Raids in Important Cities
The ED team reportedly targeted locations in Ranchi, Jharkhand; Ahmedabad, Gujarat; and Lucknow, Saharanpur, Varanasi, and Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh. It is believed that these sites were used to store illicit cough syrup, which was then transported to neighboring villages and cities for retail sales.

Health Hazards And Important Suspects
After multiple children were reported to have died after using this cough medication, the issue has continued to make headlines. With the help of his friends Alok Singh and Amit Singh, Shubham Jaiswal is regarded as the architect of this scheme. In relation to the matter, Alok Singh has already been taken into custody.

Codeine Racket with Multiple Crores
Notably, throughout the last two months, there has been a significant increase in the unlawful buying, selling, and storing of cough syrup containing codeine in a number of Uttar Pradesh districts, including Lucknow, Varanasi, Sonbhadra, Saharanpur, and Ghaziabad. As a consequence, thousands of crores of rupees are being traded illegally.

The main accused escapes to Dubai
Formation of SIT The primary suspect, Shubham Jaiswal, left the country when the scheme was exposed and is allegedly hiding in Dubai. But in relation to the case, 32 people have already been taken into custody, including his father, Bhola Prasad. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has also been established by the Uttar Pradesh government to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the situation.
