Hyderabad Metro – Centre and Telangana Hold Key Talks on Project Funding
Hyderabad Metro – Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has indicated that discussions with the Central government regarding financial assistance for the Hyderabad Metro Rail expansion have progressed in a positive direction. The talks focused on securing support for the ambitious second phase of the metro project and exploring funding mechanisms to accelerate its implementation.

The Chief Minister met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy in New Delhi on Monday evening. Following the meeting, he described the discussions as productive and expressed confidence about further progress on the financial front.
Focus on Metro Phase-2 Expansion
Addressing journalists after the meeting, Revanth Reddy said the state government is actively pursuing the release of financial support through the Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC) for Hyderabad Metro Phase-2. He added that he was scheduled to hold another round of discussions with Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar to further advance the funding proposal.
The proposed metro expansion is considered a major infrastructure initiative aimed at strengthening public transportation across Hyderabad. According to the Chief Minister, both the state and Central governments are working toward ensuring the project receives the required financial backing.
Discussions on Funding and Project Execution
In a statement shared on social media after the meeting, Revanth Reddy noted that detailed deliberations were held on various aspects of Metro Phase-2. These included the construction roadmap, measures already undertaken by the Telangana government, and strategies to mobilize financial resources for timely execution.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the state administration remains committed to completing the next phase of the metro network and is seeking coordinated support from the Centre to achieve that objective.
Request for Adilabad Airport Development
Apart from metro-related discussions, Revanth Reddy also met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Monday. During the meeting, he urged the Union government to facilitate comprehensive development of the Adilabad Airport project, which is being planned with the involvement of the Indian Air Force.
The Chief Minister requested the establishment of modern infrastructure and additional facilities that would enhance the airport’s operational capacity while supporting regional development.
Appreciation for Defence Land Transfer
During his interaction with the Defence Minister, Revanth Reddy expressed gratitude for the transfer of defence land that has enabled the construction of the Gandhi Sarovar project. He acknowledged the Centre’s support and highlighted the importance of cooperation between both governments in advancing major development initiatives.
The Chief Minister also assured the Defence Ministry that Telangana would provide full assistance for land acquisition and utility-related requirements associated with the Adilabad Airport project.
Plans for Aviation and Cargo Infrastructure
According to information released after the meeting, the Telangana government considers the airport project a significant priority. Revanth Reddy reiterated the state’s willingness to support future expansion plans because of the airport’s strategic value for both civilian connectivity and national defence.
He further sought support for establishing large-scale aviation infrastructure at the site, including cargo handling facilities, Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) services, and aircraft hangars. These facilities are expected to complement both the Indian Air Force terminal and the proposed civil aviation terminal designed for passenger operations.
The discussions reflect Telangana’s broader efforts to strengthen transportation networks, improve connectivity, and attract long-term infrastructure investments across the state.
