Heatwave – Delhi continued to battle extreme weather conditions on Wednesday as the national capital witnessed another day of severe heatwave conditions, with temperatures remaining close to 45 degrees Celsius. Heatwave Worsens Daily Life Across Delhi

The soaring temperatures have disrupted normal life in many parts of the city. Residents are not only dealing with intense daytime heat but are also facing uncomfortable nights due to rising temperatures and repeated electricity disruptions. Several neighbourhoods across Delhi-NCR reported unexpected power cuts during peak hours, adding to public frustration.

People from different areas said the outages have become increasingly difficult to manage during the ongoing heatwave. Many households without power backup systems have been forced to spend long hours without fans, coolers, or air conditioners.

Radha Damai, who lives in Vikaspuri, said a sudden power failure interrupted her daughter’s studies and affected household work. She explained that her family depends on an electric stove, making cooking difficult during long outages. She also mentioned that purchasing an inverter is financially challenging for many middle-class families.

Residents Raise Concerns Over Unpredictable Outages

Many residents complained that there is no fixed schedule for electricity interruptions, making it hard to manage daily activities. Nidhi Bagga from Dwarka said the electricity supply in her locality stopped late at night and was restored only after several hours. According to her, even short outages feel unbearable in the current weather conditions.

Social media platforms were flooded with complaints on Wednesday as people shared experiences of unscheduled blackouts in several parts of Delhi, Noida, and Gurugram. Residents expressed concern that increasing electricity demand during the summer season may continue to affect supply stability in the coming days.

Political Reactions Over Electricity Situation

The issue also triggered political reactions. Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal criticised the current administration over the power situation in the city. In a social media post, he stated that residents were facing serious difficulties due to electricity cuts during the extreme heat.

He further claimed that frequent outages had become common again despite earlier improvements in Delhi’s electricity infrastructure. His remarks also targeted the ruling BJP government, accusing it of failing to manage the situation effectively.

Power Department Explains Technical Pressure

Meanwhile, officials associated with the power sector linked the disruptions to exceptionally high electricity consumption caused by continuous heatwave conditions. According to technical staff, the heavy use of air conditioners and cooling appliances has placed enormous pressure on transformers and local electricity networks.

Vinod Pal, a lineman working with BSES, explained that temporary interruptions sometimes become necessary to prevent larger technical failures and protect electrical equipment from overload damage. However, another senior BSES official denied reports of widespread outages across the capital.

Weather Experts Warn of Continuing Heat

Weather experts stated that the intense daytime heat has also pushed up night temperatures, reducing relief after sunset. Mahesh Palawat from Skymet Weather said the city has been experiencing unusually warm nights because heat accumulated during the day is not dissipating properly.

Data from various weather monitoring stations showed temperatures staying significantly above normal levels. Safdarjung, considered Delhi’s primary weather station, recorded a maximum temperature of 44.5 degrees Celsius. Palam reported 44.9 degrees Celsius, while Lodhi Road registered 44.6 degrees Celsius, several degrees above seasonal averages.

The weather department has issued an orange alert for Thursday as well. Forecasts suggest that the minimum temperature could remain around 28 degrees Celsius, while the maximum may rise to nearly 46 degrees Celsius, indicating continued discomfort for residents across the capital regio
