Heatwave – Andhra Pradesh Faces Extreme Heat Amid Sudden Rainfall Variations
Heatwave – Andhra Pradesh is currently experiencing a mix of severe heat and sudden weather changes, according to the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA). While several regions continue to record extremely high temperatures, others have witnessed thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall, offering temporary relief from the heat.

Severe Heat Continues Across Multiple Districts
Officials reported that large parts of the state remain under the grip of intense heat. On Sunday, Gudur in Nellore district recorded the highest temperature of the season at 46.2 degrees Celsius. Close behind was Kopperapadu in Prakasam district, where temperatures reached 46.1 degrees Celsius.
The heatwave conditions were not limited to a few areas. As many as 286 mandals spread across 16 districts experienced significantly high temperatures, indicating a widespread impact. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious, especially during peak afternoon hours.
High Temperatures Reported in Several Key Locations
Apart from Gudur and Kopperapadu, several other locations also recorded alarming temperature levels. Kambham in Markapuram registered 45.7 degrees Celsius, while Bonupalle in Tirupati saw temperatures of 45.6 degrees Celsius.
Other areas also faced extreme conditions, including Nadigadda in Palnadu at 44.2 degrees Celsius and Karanchedu in Bapatla at 44 degrees Celsius. In Kurnool’s Tovi, temperatures touched 43.9 degrees Celsius, while Tavanampalle in Chittoor recorded 43.8 degrees Celsius.
Similarly, Terannapalli in Anantapur and Veeraballe in Kadapa both reported 43.4 degrees Celsius. Banaganapalle in Nandyal and Chilakallu in NTR district also experienced high heat levels, reaching 43.1 degrees Celsius.
Sudden Rainfall Brings Temporary Relief
In contrast to the scorching heat in several districts, some regions experienced unexpected rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Coastal areas and parts of Rayalaseema reported unseasonal weather activity.
Tirupati city and nearby mandals such as Pakala, Renigunta, Vadamalapeta, and Ramachandrapuram witnessed heavy rain along with hailstorms. The rainfall continued for more than three hours in certain areas, significantly lowering temperatures and providing short-term relief to residents.
Mixed Weather Patterns Pose Challenges
The contrasting weather conditions have created a complex situation for both authorities and residents. While heat-related precautions remain necessary in most districts, sudden rainfall events can disrupt daily life, agriculture, and transportation.
Officials from APSDMA have emphasized the need for constant monitoring of weather updates. They have urged people to stay indoors during extreme heat, remain hydrated, and avoid exposure to lightning during thunderstorms.
Authorities Continue Monitoring the Situation
Managing Director Prakhar Jain noted that the state is witnessing a combination of heatwave conditions and localized weather disturbances. This pattern is expected to continue in the coming days, requiring vigilance from both administration and the public.
Disaster management teams are actively tracking temperature changes and rainfall activity to ensure timely alerts and preparedness. Residents are encouraged to follow official advisories and take necessary precautions to stay safe during these fluctuating weather conditions.
