Healthcare Probe – Rajasthan Orders Action After Maternal Deaths in Kota Hospital
Healthcare Probe – The Rajasthan government has initiated strict disciplinary measures after two women lost their lives following caesarean deliveries at New Medical College Hospital in Kota. Authorities confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine possible negligence and failures in medical procedures.

State Government Begins Inquiry Into Hospital Incident
The matter drew immediate attention from the state administration after complications were reported among several women who underwent C-section surgeries earlier this week. Officials stated that Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has instructed authorities to conduct a transparent and time-bound investigation into the incident.
Medical Education Commissioner Babulal Goyal visited the hospital to review the circumstances surrounding the deaths and assess the treatment procedures followed by hospital staff. Senior officials also held discussions with doctors and administrative authorities regarding patient care standards.
Disciplinary Action Taken Against Medical Staff
Following preliminary findings, the government suspended a senior doctor along with two nursing officers for alleged negligence and failure to follow established medical protocols. A contractual doctor associated with the hospital has also been removed from service.
Officials said show-cause notices were additionally issued to two doctors from the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department. Authorities are seeking explanations regarding supervision of patients, monitoring procedures, and post-operative treatment practices.
Principal Secretary for Medical Education Gayatri Rathore stated that early findings pointed toward serious lapses in adherence to clinical procedures and patient monitoring systems. According to officials, further action may follow once the complete inquiry report is submitted.
Several Women Developed Complications After Surgeries
Hospital sources said around 12 to 13 pregnant women underwent caesarean procedures on Monday evening. Within hours of surgery, the condition of multiple patients reportedly worsened. Medical complications included a sudden decline in blood pressure, reduction in platelet count, and urinary obstruction.
As the health condition of six women became critical, they were transferred to the nephrology department for advanced treatment and monitoring. Doctors attempted emergency medical intervention after their conditions deteriorated rapidly.
Two Women Succumb During Treatment
One of the affected patients, identified as 26-year-old Payal, died while receiving treatment on Tuesday. Another patient, 19-year-old Jyoti Nayak from Kota, passed away on Thursday despite continued medical care. Their deaths triggered concern over the functioning of the hospital and the handling of post-surgical complications.
The state government has directed hospital authorities to ensure proper care and close observation of all admitted patients while the inquiry continues. Officials stated that accountability will be fixed after the final investigation findings are reviewed.
