Governance – PM Modi Surpasses Nehru to Become Longest-Serving Elected Prime Minister

Governance –  Prime Minister Narendra Modi has achieved a significant place in India’s political history by becoming the country’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister. The milestone was highlighted on Wednesday after he completed 4,399 uninterrupted days in office, moving ahead of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s record of 4,398 consecutive days following India’s first general election.

Union Minister Praises Historic Achievement

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal congratulated Prime Minister Modi on reaching the landmark. In a message shared on social media platform X, Goyal described the occasion as an important chapter in India’s democratic journey and acknowledged the Prime Minister’s long tenure in public service.

According to Goyal, the last twelve years have witnessed several major policy decisions and reforms that have influenced multiple sections of society. He noted that initiatives launched during the Modi administration have benefited farmers, entrepreneurs, women, small businesses, young people and middle-class families across the country.

Focus on Development and Reform

The Union Minister said the government’s efforts over the past decade have contributed to changes in economic and social sectors. He emphasized that programs aimed at improving livelihoods and expanding opportunities have reached communities at the grassroots level, helping millions of citizens.

Goyal further stated that various reforms introduced during the Modi government’s tenure have played a role in shaping India’s development path. He credited the Prime Minister’s leadership for supporting growth initiatives and encouraging broader participation in the country’s progress.

Recognition of India’s Growing Global Presence

Highlighting India’s international standing, Goyal said the country has gained greater recognition on the global stage during Prime Minister Modi’s tenure. He added that the Prime Minister has received several international honors and that India’s influence in global affairs has expanded in recent years.

The minister also pointed to the government’s long-term development vision, stating that Modi’s leadership remains an important factor in advancing the national goal of transforming India into a developed nation by the year 2047. He said continued progress across different sectors would contribute to achieving that objective.

BJP Marks the Occasion in New Delhi

To commemorate the achievement, the Bharatiya Janata Party installed banners at various locations across New Delhi. Party workers and supporters marked the occasion with congratulatory messages, while several leaders from the National Democratic Alliance extended their greetings.

Among those who acknowledged the milestone was former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa. He described the development as a notable moment in India’s democratic history and praised the Prime Minister’s contribution to governance and national development over the past twelve years.

NDA Meeting Coincides With Landmark Day

The achievement comes at a time when senior leaders of the National Democratic Alliance are gathering in the national capital for an important meeting. The conclave, being held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, is expected to bring together Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers and senior representatives from NDA-governed states and Union Territories.

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to chair discussions focused on governance priorities, development initiatives and future policy direction. Leaders are also expected to review progress made under various government programs and deliberate on strategies linked to the long-term vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

The meeting is seen as an opportunity for alliance leaders to assess ongoing projects and coordinate efforts aimed at achieving the country’s development goals in the coming decades.
