Governance – PM Modi Calls for Collaborative Administration to Achieve National Goals
Governance – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday encouraged young Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers to work beyond departmental boundaries and adopt a coordinated approach to solving the country’s development challenges. Addressing 183 officer trainees from the 2024 batch, he emphasized the importance of modern governance practices, including the use of artificial intelligence and data-driven decision-making, in shaping India’s future.
Citizens Must Remain at the Core of Governance
During the interaction, the Prime Minister underscored the principle of “Nagrik Devo Bhava,” stressing that citizens should remain the primary focus of every government initiative. The officer trainees, currently serving as Assistant Secretaries in various ministries in New Delhi, shared insights from their field assignments and administrative training experiences.
Modi highlighted that public administration is ultimately about serving people and ensuring that government policies create meaningful improvements in their daily lives. He encouraged the officers to maintain a strong connection with public concerns while carrying out their responsibilities.
Responsibility Increases With Administrative Experience
Reflecting on the officers’ professional journey so far, the Prime Minister noted that they had completed significant field exposure and administrative learning over the past two years. He said they were now entering a crucial phase of their careers where their decisions would have a lasting impact on governance and public welfare.
According to him, administrative leadership requires sound judgment, accountability, and a commitment to public service. He urged the officers to approach their duties with dedication and a clear sense of responsibility.
Integrity and Sensitivity Essential in Public Service
Modi stated that the true measure of a civil servant emerges when dealing with real-world challenges. He emphasized the need for integrity, compassion, and commitment while making administrative decisions.
The Prime Minister advised the trainees to remain conscious of the human consequences of policy implementation. Every decision taken by public officials, he said, affects individuals and communities, making sensitivity an important aspect of governance.
Need for Strong Coordination Across Departments
Highlighting the importance of inter-departmental cooperation, Modi said that complex development issues cannot be effectively addressed when government departments work in isolation. He called for stronger coordination among ministries and agencies to ensure better policy outcomes and efficient implementation.
He explained that a collaborative administrative framework allows different departments to combine expertise and resources, leading to more effective solutions for national challenges.
Focus on Viksit Bharat 2047 Vision
Referring to the government’s long-term vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, the Prime Minister urged the officers to align their work with the broader objective of transforming India into a developed nation by the centenary year of Independence.
He said that every policy initiative, administrative reform, and governance decision should contribute to the country’s development journey. Encouraging the young officers to become active participants in nation-building, Modi stressed that efficient governance and public-focused administration would play a critical role in achieving the goals set for the coming decades.
