Governance – Karnataka Cabinet Portfolios Distributed as New Administration Takes Shape
Governance – Karnataka’s newly formed government has officially assigned responsibilities to ministers, outlining the administrative framework that will guide governance in the coming years.

Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has distributed portfolios among 13 members of his Council of Ministers while retaining several key departments under his direct supervision. These include Finance, Cabinet Affairs, the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, Intelligence, and all portfolios that have not yet been allocated.
Official Notification Issued
The portfolio distribution was formalized through a government notification released on Thursday by the Cabinet Affairs and Personnel and Administrative Reforms Secretariat. The order was issued under the provisions of Article 166(3) of the Constitution of India following approval from Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot based on the Chief Minister’s recommendation.
Key Responsibilities Assigned
Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara has been entrusted with the Revenue and Sports departments. Senior Congress leader Priyank Kharge will oversee the Home Department, excluding Intelligence, along with Information Technology, Biotechnology, and e-Governance.
Satish Jarkiholi has been assigned the Public Works Department, while KH Muniyappa will supervise Food and Civil Supplies as well as Consumer Affairs. MB Patil has received responsibility for Large and Medium Industries together with Infrastructure Development.
Ramalinga Reddy will manage the Major and Medium Irrigation portfolio. KJ George has been entrusted with the Energy and Tourism departments, both considered important sectors for the state’s economic growth and development.
Focus on Bengaluru and Urban Growth
Krishna Byre Gowda has been given charge of Greater Bengaluru Development. His responsibilities include oversight of several major civic agencies and city corporations across Bengaluru, including bodies linked to water supply, urban transport, and municipal administration.
Urban Development has been assigned to Yathindra Siddaramaiah. His portfolio includes various urban infrastructure and development agencies, though certain Bengaluru-focused authorities remain outside his jurisdiction as specified in the official notification.
Social Sectors Receive New Leadership
Health and Family Welfare responsibilities have been handed to UT Khader, while Eshwar Khandre will lead the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department. These ministries play a central role in delivering public services and implementing welfare programs across the state.
Byrathi Suresh has been appointed as Transport Minister. Meanwhile, Sharan Prakash Patil will oversee Education Development, a department expected to focus on strengthening educational infrastructure and policy implementation.
First Cabinet Meeting Held in Bengaluru
Earlier on Thursday, Chief Minister DK Shivakumar chaired his first official cabinet meeting at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru, just a day after assuming office as Karnataka’s 34th Chief Minister. The meeting marked the beginning of the new administration’s policy and governance agenda.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara, senior minister Ramalinga Reddy, senior bureaucrats, and top police officials attended the session.
New Government Begins Its Tenure
Following the cabinet meeting, Shivakumar briefly interacted with supporters gathered outside his Bengaluru residence. His swearing-in ceremony at Lok Bhavan formally marked the start of his tenure after succeeding former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Alongside him, G Parameshwara took oath as Deputy Chief Minister. The ceremony also witnessed the induction of 12 additional legislators into the Council of Ministers, completing the formation of a new cabinet tasked with steering Karnataka’s governance and development priorities in the coming years.
