Ghaziabad Rainfall – Schools Shut as Waterlogging Disrupts City Traffic
Ghaziabad Rainfall – Ghaziabad faced persistent rainfall from Wednesday evening into Thursday, leaving several neighbourhoods waterlogged and affecting routine movement across the city. Roads in many localities remained submerged during the morning hours, while commuters reported long delays on key routes leading towards Delhi and Meerut.

Waterlogged roads affect residential and commercial areas
The heavy downpour caused rainwater to accumulate in several parts of Ghaziabad, including Vijay Nagar, Indirapuram, Vaishali, Nehru Nagar, Sahibabad, Shastri Nagar, Siddharth Vihar, Bhopura, Mohan Nagar, Khora, Lal Kuan and Masuri. Streets and internal roads in these areas were seen filled with water, making it difficult for residents to travel for work, school and other daily needs.
In Shastri Nagar, a heavily flooded stretch created significant trouble for motorists. Vehicles moved slowly through the waterlogged road, resulting in long queues and delays. Many commuters said the situation became more difficult during peak office hours, when traffic volume increased across the city.
District administration orders closure of schools
In view of the continuing rainfall and safety concerns, the Ghaziabad district administration directed schools to remain closed for students up to Class 12. The order was issued by the District Magistrate after weather conditions worsened across several parts of the district.
Following the announcement, many schools informed parents and students about the closure through official messages. Some schools advised students to stay indoors and use the day to complete pending academic work. The administration’s decision was aimed at reducing travel risks for children amid flooded roads and slow-moving traffic.
Traffic movement slows on Delhi and Meerut routes
Traffic remained heavily affected throughout Thursday morning as waterlogging created bottlenecks at several intersections and major roads. Office-goers travelling towards Delhi, Meerut and other nearby destinations reported unusually long travel times.
Several commuters said they remained stuck in traffic for hours despite using highways and major connecting roads. Vehicles were seen moving at a slow pace on multiple stretches, with congestion extending into surrounding residential areas.
Sapna Khandelwal, a resident of Indirapuram, said commuters faced long queues from the early hours. She noted that even routes normally considered faster were affected by the widespread traffic congestion. Residents urged civic agencies to improve drainage arrangements and traffic management during periods of intense rainfall.
IMD issues orange alert across Uttar Pradesh
The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for the region, warning of heavy rainfall through much of the day. The weather agency has also issued a rainfall alert for all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Ghaziabad.
The alert indicates the possibility of continued heavy showers, which may further affect road conditions, local transport and low-lying areas. Residents have been advised to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel during intense rainfall and follow updates issued by local authorities.
Civic teams are expected to monitor waterlogging-prone locations and clear blocked drains where required. Traffic police are also likely to regulate movement at congested points to reduce delays for commuters.
The rainfall has once again highlighted the challenges faced by Ghaziabad during the monsoon season, particularly in areas where drainage systems struggle to handle prolonged showers. With more rain forecast, residents and authorities are expected to remain on alert through the day.
