Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday remembered Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak and revolutionary Chandra Shekhar Azad, acknowledging their remarkable contributions to India’s struggle for independence. In separate messages shared on social media platform X, the Prime Minister praised both leaders for their unwavering commitment to the nation and said their ideals continue to motivate citizens across the country.

PM Modi Recalls Tilak’s Enduring Contribution

Paying tribute to Bal Gangadhar Tilak, PM Modi described him as one of the most influential figures of the freedom movement who awakened patriotic feelings among Indians during British rule. Born on July 23, 1856, Tilak became widely known as “Lokmanya” and formed the famous Lal-Bal-Pal trio alongside Lala Lajpat Rai and Bipin Chandra Pal. His determined campaign for self-rule earned him the title “The Father of the Indian Unrest” from British authorities.

In his message, the Prime Minister said Tilak inspired countless people to dedicate themselves to public service and nation-building. He also highlighted Tilak’s efforts to preserve and promote India’s cultural traditions while encouraging social unity and harmony. According to Modi, Tilak’s writings strengthened public confidence and instilled a deep sense of national pride during a challenging period in India’s history.

Tribute to Chandra Shekhar Azad’s Courage

Remembering Chandra Shekhar Azad on his birth anniversary, the Prime Minister praised the revolutionary leader’s exceptional bravery and steadfast patriotism. Born on July 23, 1906, Azad played a crucial role in reorganising the Hindustan Republican Association after the death of revolutionary Ram Prasad Bismil. Under his leadership, the organisation was renamed the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association, giving renewed direction to the revolutionary movement against British colonial rule.

PM Modi said Azad’s fearless commitment to the country secured him a distinguished place in the history of India’s freedom struggle. He noted that the revolutionary’s determination inspired many young Indians to devote themselves to the cause of independence, adding that his legacy continues to encourage future generations to serve the nation with dedication.

Amit Shah Highlights Tilak’s National Awakening

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid homage to Bal Gangadhar Tilak through a message on social media. He described Tilak as one of the pioneering leaders of India’s independence movement who devoted his entire life to promoting national consciousness, indigenous products, Indian languages, and cultural heritage.

Shah recalled Tilak’s famous declaration, “Swaraj is my birthright, and I shall have it,” saying the slogan awakened the spirit of freedom across the country and inspired people from all sections of society to participate in the national movement.

The Home Minister also noted Tilak’s efforts to transform public celebrations, including the Ganesh Festival and the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, into platforms that strengthened national unity and encouraged public participation in the freedom movement. He further mentioned Tilak’s celebrated work, Gita Rahasya, stating that it continues to guide readers with its message of duty and commitment.
