Fraud – Delhi Police Crack Rs 35 Lakh iPhone Delivery Scam
Fraud – Delhi Police have uncovered a significant online fraud operation involving high-value smartphones, leading to the arrest of two individuals accused of misappropriating expensive consignments.
The case came to light after a complainant reported discrepancies in multiple online purchases made through a popular e-commerce platform. According to the complaint, orders were placed for 50 units of iPhone 16 (128 GB) between April 12 and April 16. While the system showed all shipments as successfully delivered, the buyer stated that none of the packages actually reached him.
Complaint Triggers Detailed Investigation
Following the complaint, authorities registered a case at Bharat Nagar police station and began a detailed probe. Initial findings suggested that the delivery records had been manipulated. Despite the tracking system marking all consignments as delivered, there was no physical proof of receipt at the delivery address.
Investigators suspected involvement from within the delivery chain. The complainant alleged that delivery personnel may have falsely updated shipment statuses in coordination with others, diverting the goods for personal gain. The total estimated value of the missing smartphones was around Rs 35 lakh.
Delivery Agent Identified as Key Suspect
During the investigation, police examined tracking data linked to the shipments. Out of 32 tracking IDs analyzed, 26 were found to be assigned to a single delivery agent named Jaspreet Singh. This discovery became a crucial breakthrough in the case.
Authorities tracked down Jaspreet Singh, a 21-year-old resident of Kishanganj, and took him into custody. Interrogation revealed that he had played a central role in the scheme. Police stated that the accused had manipulated delivery updates to falsely mark packages as delivered without completing the actual handover.
Role of Associate in the Fraud
Further questioning led to the involvement of a second accused, Himanshu, aged 30, also from Kishanganj. According to police officials, the two worked together to divert the consignments. The stolen goods were allegedly split or stored for resale.
Investigators believe the duo exploited weaknesses in the delivery system, allowing them to intercept packages and update records without raising immediate suspicion. Their actions resulted in a substantial financial loss for the complainant.
Recovery of Stolen Devices
Based on information provided by the accused during interrogation, police conducted recovery operations. A total of 14 sealed iPhone 16 units were retrieved, with an estimated value of around Rs 10 lakh.
Officials confirmed that efforts are ongoing to trace the remaining missing devices. The recovery of part of the stolen consignment has provided key evidence in strengthening the case against the accused.
Police Statement and Ongoing Probe
Police officials stated that the investigation is still underway to identify whether more individuals were involved in the network. Authorities are also examining if similar incidents have occurred using the same method.
The case has highlighted potential vulnerabilities in delivery tracking systems and raised concerns about internal collusion in logistics operations. Officials emphasized the importance of stricter verification processes to prevent such frauds in the future.
