FireSafety – Delhi Government Begins Major Plan to Strengthen Emergency Response
FireSafety – The Delhi government has started work on a large-scale fire safety framework following a series of recent fire accidents reported across different parts of the national capital. The initiative aims to improve emergency preparedness, reduce risks in vulnerable areas and protect lives and public property from future incidents.
The decision was taken during a high-level review meeting chaired by Rekha Gupta at the Delhi Secretariat on Wednesday. Senior officials from multiple departments attended the meeting to discuss existing shortcomings in fire response systems and examine long-term safety measures for the city.
Departments Asked to Submit Detailed Safety Reports
During the meeting, the chief minister instructed all concerned departments to prepare and submit a complete action blueprint within the next 10 days. The reports are expected to identify the main reasons behind recent fire incidents, locations considered highly vulnerable, weaknesses in current systems and practical steps required to prevent future emergencies.
Officials have also been asked to study earlier fire accidents carefully and recommend solutions that can help reduce casualties and financial losses during such situations. According to the government, the information collected from various departments will form the foundation of the proposed Fire Fighting Master Plan.
Focus on Accountability and Faster Emergency Response
The Delhi government indicated that public safety would remain a top administrative priority. During discussions, the chief minister stressed the need for stronger accountability among departments responsible for emergency management and civic infrastructure.
She said negligence in matters related to public safety would not be accepted and warned that strict action could be taken against officials found ignoring safety responsibilities. The administration also highlighted the importance of improving coordination between departments to ensure a quicker and more organised response during emergencies.
Expansion of Fire Services Planned Across Delhi
As part of the proposed reforms, the Delhi Fire Service has been directed to improve manpower availability and strengthen operational capacity in high-risk areas. Plans are also being considered for the establishment of additional fire stations across the city to improve response time during emergencies.
The government further discussed the procurement of advanced firefighting equipment and modern rescue tools to support fire personnel during complex operations. Authorities said financial support for these upgrades would be provided through the required budget allocations.
Illegal Constructions and Infrastructure Under Review
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has been instructed to take stricter action against illegal constructions that may create obstacles for firefighting vehicles and emergency teams. Officials were told to ensure that roads and access points remain clear for fire tenders, especially in densely populated localities.
At the same time, power distribution agencies have been directed to carry out regular inspections of electrical infrastructure to reduce the chances of fire caused by technical faults or damaged wiring systems. Officials believe that improved infrastructure monitoring could help lower fire-related risks in residential and commercial areas.
Public Awareness Campaigns and Safety Drills Proposed
Along with administrative reforms, the Delhi government is also planning to increase public awareness regarding fire safety practices. Authorities are considering awareness campaigns, educational outreach programmes and mock drills across schools, residential colonies and commercial centres.
